Found this chunk of quartz going through rocks at my parents house I would imagine it's Mike on it but I've never seen any with the silver color this has. Any chance this is silver? How would I tell?

Difficult to tell from the picture. Could also be molybdenum or more likely galena. Location and hardness would help

greig is correct it looks like galena. Where is it from? get a streak of the gray on unglazed porcelain. if you look at it under high magnification does the gray have a broken surface with 90 deg corners. There could be many other options.

Thanks for the info. I'll check it out on porcelain and get back on here at some point. I'm working on cleaning out my parents house and it's a bit overwhelming.
