Excellent pics. My first thought it is looks to be sedimentary. Probably soft and will fall apart. Not something you can polish. I could stand to be corrected

Looks to me like what Mr. Mohs said. I see either a crumbly piece of granite or some sort of gneiss.

Looks like a granite to me. I’d also go with Ed’s gneiss.

My vote is for gneiss. It looks just like some Idaho gneiss found around the margins of the batholith.
