I’m in heaven right now. I just had 2 old school Genie’s fall in my lap in one week! One for $650 with all wheels and the other with no wheels for free!!!! I feel so blessed! I thought I’d never be able to afford one! Let alone 2! In one week! Now the question is, I need to identify which grit wheels are on here so I know which grits I need to buy for the other one. Anyone know how to tell? Also, I want to buy the flat lap attachment. Is there anywhere that sells it as a bundle? Everything I’m seeing you have to buy each grit lap separate and the backing separate. I’m trying to do this in the most economical way possible.

The standard Genie setup from left to right is 80 hard/ 220 hard/ 280 soft/ 600 soft/ 1500 soft/ 3000 soft. Personally, if it's only you using them I would turn each into a 4 wheel cabber for more space between the wheels and add a couple grits to your 8 wheels, maybe 14k and 50k, or a 140(?) soft between the 220 hard and 280 soft.

I bought an 80 grit no hole end flat lap attachment from rockpeddler. Their orders are shipped directly from DP. I had to wait a few months for delivery. Some DP is made in China. I use the flat lap to flatten the backs of cabs after using the 80 grit wheel to get close. I can use the wheels for other grits for working on flat surfaces. Lots of choices for a master lap and discs. I only needed the 80 and wanted no hole.
Unless you want to complete one to sell or have someone else that needs to work on the other Genie, I would use the extra right hand adapter. What Rockoonz recommended, 3 adapters for 6 wheels or what I have 9 wheels. Quality wheels have come down in price for much less than dp; Lithuanian for hard and soft, johnsonbrothers for soft and if you go to on an arbor Highland Park which are 2 inches wide.

One more thing about the end lap; it isn't cooled with the Genie geyser unless it is handheld. I use a 16oz spray bottle. I prefer to do the other grits with wheels.

So I have the one up and going. Still trying to figure out what to do with the other. I really want some wide expanding drum wheels. Can those go on a genii arbor? And then I still want to put the flat lap on the side. Not for the back of cabs necessarily but i love doing slabs and want a flat lap for the wider surface area and the fact that those have no hole it’s even better. Double the surface area. That’s also why I want to put the expanding drums on there so i can do larger pieces. I have access to a lot of that at the club I’m in but want to have something at home where I’m not so limited on time I can use it.

My best advice to you would be to use the genie you have running for awhile before you decide how you want to do the other one. Many of use have other wheels on an extra arbor or machine. They can be expensive to set up, so wait til you are sure what you want.

Just a thought: Do you know if the Genie you are using was sitting around unused for a few years? You may want to replace the capacitor so the motor doesn't fry. It's a precaution well worth taking if you don't know when the last time the machine was used. Same with the spare machine. Much less expensive than buying a new motor.
ETA: Been there, done that, no fun.

Make sure they both work. I have heard if they sit for an extended period of time without being run that it can blow a capacitor or something in the machines.
Also make sure the pump is working properly on them.
Rockoonz gave the types and grits of the wheels already. That is what m set up had a well. They are expensive so you may consider selling one machine as is to buy the wheels. I know someone on one of the lapidary equipment sites on Facebook was looking for a Genie for a while. Just a thought. Here is an example on the cost vhttps://kingsleynorth.com/diamond-pacific-wheel-set-for-genie.html

I’m not sure, I think it was actually your comment on another post that we saw that gave us the idea and then we called Diamond Pacific and they concurred. And if it was you that gave the suggestion of getting from Graingers instead of a lapidary place, extra thanks! Less than $5 there compared to around $50 on lapidary sites!

And we checked the pump as well. Both of those things were recommended from Diamond Pacific when we talked to them. Do you or anyone know if you can put a wide expanding drum on a genii? Oh and also, what the hell is the difference between a Genie and a Genii? The one with 6 wheels is with the ‘e’ and the one with 4 wheels is with an ‘i’. I haven’t been able to find anything online about it.

I haven’t been able to find anything online about it. From what I understand, the Genii was made by Gem-Tec many moons ago. I read somewhere that DP may have bought Gem-Tec back in the day and their cabbing machines became the DP lines. I could not find a picture of a Genii online, but I did see pictures of the Gem-Tec Coronet which looks like a Pixie. You could ask DP and they will probably tell you.

From DP: The Genie was introduced in 1973.

I made a little post about it way back so that nobody else had to pay the $50 I made a little post about my Genie escapades due to that. I couldn't believe $50 for a capacitor; and DP wanted me to call them to tell me which wire went where (could've been a simple email answer....).
