I've been researching different brands of vibratory tumblers. Lot-O are mostly out of stock or inflated prices or both. I've been looking at the Mini-sonic and the small Gy-Roc. They are both about the same price. I'm leaning towards the Gy-Roc. Any opinions on either or both would be appreciated.

I have a older Mini Sonic ( KG 1 ) that they don’t make any more and I’m happy with it. I can’t speak for the other one. One thing that’s for sure is Diamond Pacific does have excellent service.

I've not dealt with them but have heard DP has excellent service. The Gy-roc on the other hand is from Johnson Bros

I have both the Gy-Roc B model and an old Mini Sonic. I much prefer the Mini Sonic. The hard plastic bowls from the Gy-Roc are a lot louder than the Mini Sonic. A plus for the Mini Sonic is that it has a speed control too.

They both have their pluses. I have the old version of the minisonic (no speed control) and several of the small gyrocs. I have had instances when one of them would not shake a particular load but the other would. I would say the minisonic is more bullet proof; but the gyroc is so flexible ( speed/intensity can be adjusted; bowls/lids/springs/clamps replaced; its even possible to stack two bowls at the same time for double loads. I like them both.

Hello rockbrain, the UV-10 from Thumlers is the only vibe I've ever used. I saw one online shop said they'd be available end of April, but the price is high. Inflation and demand driving things way up there. I really love it though and if I were choosing right now it would be the one I would buy. Best of luck. Thanks for posting.

Inflation and demand driving things way up there. I really love it though and if I were choosing right now it would be the one I would buy. Best of luck. Thanks for posting. I too have a UV-10 and just did a complete tear down and rebuild. You might consider the ability to repair and replace worn parts ad cost of said parts when purchasing your new unit. I do that when purchasing new items in general. I ask where do I source parts, what's the cost, can I do the work and if I can't, I ask what will the cost be to me (sorry no time for punctuation). The UV -10 also has replacement bowls which I've not needed but could leverage as designated for one grit to limit contamination. Insider tip: the vendor tried a new motor on their units somewhere between 2020 and 2022 but switched back to the round fasco motor this year due to performance. The interim motor had a prominent white fan one could see under platform, may want to avoid that model... that said, someone on this forum has that model, so maybe they'll contribute.

Vibes are awesome, and much necessarily for the tumbling process. I personally use an ancient Mini-sonic 4lb tumbler as my vibe. I bought it very used and it still works great. I would recommend it to anyone as a first vibratory tumbler.

If I were to buy a new one today it would be the DP Minisonic. I have pre DP versions that work well, they have adjustable amplitude. I also have a Gemstone tumbler it holds about 5 gal of rock. It too has adjustable amplitude but not as convenient and the lid won't stay on so I do it open top. I have a commercial vib that holds 15 Gal of rock with a similar shaped tub to the minisonic. It works well too. Have not used the Gyroc.

My old (1980s) original Geode Industries Mini-Sonic works like a charm and is basically bulletproof. I think the DP version (acquired from GI) is essentially the same machine. No experience with the other brand. My 2-barrel version has independent speed adjustment for each side. My only issue is that it's become a bit noisy in its older years. That can probably be fixed but I don't know how.

I have a UV-18 that has been running 24/7 (only stopping for cleanouts) for the last 3 years (I am on my 6th bowl), like all things it has a bit of a learning curve, but, works pretty good. If you don't have 20lbs of rocks or enough smalls to fill it: you can make up the difference with ceramics. It is my preference because I like to polish larger stones. I also have a UV45--which I would not recommend for anyone without experience running a less powerful Thumlers UV model first. Mistakes with a UV45 will be made on an epic scale.
