I hope I've posted this in the proper section, if not, let me know. You won't hurt my feelings. I want to find out where I can purchase some apache tears that have the silver cast, or any other color mixed with the black. I saw some on this site that were beautiful and looked like they had transparent sections in the stone. My goal here is to find some pieces that I can use for a pendant and ear ring set. I would also like to find one large enough (25mm X 18mm) or there abouts for a pendant. I checked the sites that I'm familiar with and can't seem to find anything but the all black stones. If anyone knows of a dealer that has what I'm looking for, please let me know and a contact for them as well.
Thanks for your consideration.
Jim

rockjunquie - What section did you move it to? I haven't had any hits, help or information on finding the silver apache tears. I thought that someone on this site might have some they would part with or know of a place to try and find them. If anybody has any to sell, please let me know.

I have collected Apache Tears at Mule Creek New Mexico. I did find a few that had a silver sheen on the outside. Not sure whether or not the silver color is just skin deep, don't remember if I ever tumbled any and would have to did thru 2 or 3 buckets to see if i can find a few.

Jim I think what you saw is probably silver sheen obsidian and not Apache Tears. I have never seen Apache Tears that had a silver sheen, but they are translucent. Most of the sheen obsidians are translucent. Mahogany can be or not. The double and triple flow obsidians are mostly translucent. I think that is why you haven't gotten any responses to your post. There may very well be Apache Tears that have some silver sheen but I've never personally seen any.

The apache tears from Superior, AZ are very translucent in almost smoky quartz colors with some a bit lighter. I have collected sheen type apache tears at the "sump" site in Nevada and near the opalized wood beds near Gabbs in the same state. Most of those are opaque or only slightly translucent and the sheen examples are uncommon. Most are just deep opaque black. If there is a location where sheen tears are common, I would think it is in NE California near Plume Creek when sheen obsidian nodules are very common. Plum Creek itself is virtually bedded with obsidian nodules so, though I never looked for them, there may be tiny apache tear sized ones in the creek beds too. Silver and gold sheen obsidian are common so I would suggest you just cut down larger stock to your preferred size and tumble your own "tears". Obsidian is all very similar chemically anyway.

Thank you all! Good information. I'll start looking for the correct obsidian and forget the tears.
