Hello all
Hope you all had a wonderful Easter.
Now for my question. My mom fell in love with a piece of cheveron amethyst I just got. It is to big to tumble it with other pieces I got BUT ban I tumble it alone with pea gravel and small river pebbles? I know probably a common sense question. Maybe I could crush a few other pieces and put that in too.

You can. Check out some of Benathema's threads about tumbling large rocks. I know there are more who've done them, too.

Hello nursetumbler, I just started some small chevron amethyst and they are looking good after one week in coarse with a mix of mohs 6.5-7 other rocks. I would like to try some larger pieces someday. I tumble large rocks all the time in a 12 pound barrel with rocks of all sizes 1-2 inches. Large being 4-5 inches. I am finding out that it would work better if they were in with much smaller rock or ceramic media. I've been tumbling a large piece of Mexican crazy lace for about 4 months and it's coming along just fine. It could make it to the rock tumbling photos page when it's done. Thanks for posting your question.

Healed fractures. Yeah quartz. Finicky chippy rock. These crystalline quartzes chip a lot. Gotta really baby them if you want as few defects as possible in the final stone.

Tumblers are like Saws. The rock is not too big, the equipment is too small.
