From what I am reading, RI isn't a great state for rockhounding, but it is the only place where you can find Cumberlandite in bulk. So I took a 20 minute ride and brought back the chunk below. I think i got the right stuff. Either way, I'm breaking it up and throwing it in my tumbler .

Maybe I'm off my rocker, but I swore lordsorril lives in that area and has shown some of the same material off.
Hope we get some "after" shots

Judging by the condition of the piece in the original post above: looks like you dug it/mined it...instead of casually wading in and picking it out of the river (like me). I have collected several iterations of similar material in the Blackstone River Valley (MA/RI). All of them shape rather nicely, but, only a few have polished well for me. Best of luck!

I seem to remember a Rock And Gem article from around 2007 that had some guys finding beryl crystals in boulders right on the beach in a cliff like section. Yellow and green. May be worth checking into.

I found directions online of where to find it . Now my goal is to find Bowenite (RI state mineral). From what I am reading I will need to search the shores of the Narragansett bay. Have you had any luck finding this mineral?

Have you had any luck finding this mineral? I have never found Bowenite. I have found some weird serpentine, but, only in very specific locations. Of course Rhodonite is the MA state gemstone-and I have found a total of one small piece in my travels...yet I can buy a 30lb. box of it from a guy in WA for like $100.
