Mostly a reminder for myself, but also for anyone else who might need one.
There's a couple here that we've known for 20 plus years. We're friends, not really get- together type friends- I guess acquaintances might be a better term.
Unfortunately, the wife has been dealing with stomach cancer for a while. She is in hospice now.
They have three sons and the youngest one is a senior in high school. Yesterday they held a private graduation ceremony in the couple's yard with several school officials attending, the mom watched from her couch. Obviously they don't think she will live long enough for her son's actual graduation.
Sometimes I get a little down and I need to remind myself to be grateful for my life and to take time to appreciate the people that make up my story in this world.
Thanks for listening.

Hard to comment on that. I feel bad for the woman. However, your suggestion and reminder are absolutely spot on.

I just learned that she passed at noon. ☹️ Mike, I'm so sorry to hear this. Thoughts and prayers going out to you and the rest of her family. It's amazing she was able to hang on long enough to see her son graduate...and amazing the school was willing to do that for the family.

We live in a pretty small community and most of the people here are really nice, the fact that they did it for the family doesn't surprise me at all...

I'm sorry to hear that, Mike.
Coming from someone who watched their mom die from cancer, it is horribly hard. What's harder is knowing they know they are going to die and there's not a damn thing anyone can do about it.
Prayers going out to their family and to all who knew them.

Thank you for the reminder. I watched my brother wither away from lung cancer in 3 months from a 6'2" muscular carpenter to nothing but bones I could pick up and cradle while his girlfriend changed his bed. Now I am dealing with it again with my mom, also lung cancer. It is a horrible disease that leaves devastation in its wake. My sincerest condolences with thoughts and prayers for her family and the entire community. I am glad she got to see her sons graduation ceremony.

Cancer sucks. I'm sorry for anyone who has to deal with a loss in such a tragic way. Very good reminder to live life to the fullest because you don't know when your bell is going to get rung.
I'm glad she got to see her son graduate, Mike. Best wishes to her family.
