Hello, I went with the grandkids to Hogg Mine in Georgia last week. I picked up lots of black Tourmaline among a few other things. I'm looking for guidance on how to clean it without breakage and affecting the natural shapes of the stone. I have vibratory and a regular tumbler available to use.

Welcome from AZ. Not much for me to offer about specimen cleaning, except to say first find out the hardness of the host rock and the specimen, then if possible use tools that are in between them in hardness. Sites for people who prepare fossils may have the best insight.

Welcome from the middle of California. I just got an ultrasonic cleaner last week and it works great. However, a quick Google search says not to use it for tourmaline. Warm water (not hot), mild soap and a toothbrush. We need pictures of your finds!
