Cruelty...! Posting a slab like that with no ID...! Something we will never see anywhere else, I"m sure, but what... . Original Jumping Jeep?
Kidding aside, that is something I can't remember seeing before. No wonder it was with the "better" stuff.
No markings/writing on the stuff but I’m pretty sure it’s wingate. Oddly enough I haven’t come across any jumping jeep, but him knowing quant so well, and after half the other stuff I’ve come across. I’m positive I have some jumping jeep in the collection somewhere.

Yeah - those bright colors would fit with Wingate,eh? That location didn't come to mind when I saw the slab.
Since I joined the "rock party" late I have only seen pictures of most of the good old stuff. That's why I enjoy the photos you post so much. Still trying to learn more about what was available then.

To continue this thread a bit. So I finally got the trash freeloaders kicked out of my grandparents house, which now i'll be moving into to fix up the property to sell it. Anywhoo..... I had the opportunity to get into the house and pull some things from behind the false wall down in the cellar. I was actually looking for material for the Fall theme contest I didn't take a lot of pictures, but wanted to share just a couple things to give an idea whats stored back there. This is just a very very VERY small taste of what I pulled out. Enjoy. Two of these totes full of Laguna agate in the rough. Slabs of Carey like this Slabs of Robinson Ranch Plume Killer Chunks of Deschutes Big Chunks of Sugilite Plates of Pietersite. Sorry for poor photo quality, pics dont show off the vibrance. And now you know why so little batcave is in circulation lol. One of Two 55 gallon drums.

You better make sure there aren't any more false walls anywhere that you don't know about before you sell the house. No telling what else may be hiding in there. That Sugilite is worth a small fortune all by itself. It's all beautiful stuff, as you well know. 2 55 gal. drums of Batcave? You're a hoarder!

I know where pretty much all the stuff was hidden. However I did stumble across more today that wasn't, just buried under other things. Slabs of vistaite, morrisonite, sagenite, hundreds of priday plume slabs, etc.. I was a lil set back. Big bag of super nice queensland boulder opal, jars of various opals in the rough. When I get it all organized, i'd love to share more. Just material you don't see a lot of in one setting like that.

..."various jars of opal rough" he says. Now you've done it, realrockhound.
As much as I like the other treasures opal still tops my list. My avatar photo is one I cut within a year of when I started. Didn't cut any agates or jaspers or anything else until a few years later. Now you've gone and discovered rough that's probably from well before I started cutting. Are the jars ID'd by type/location?
Whatever you do, don't stop posting things you find. It will give us all hope and inspiration whenever we see "old collections" for sale.
At least we can dream... .

Would love to see pictures of all of it -- when you can take them and post them. They will be worth the wait to see for sure.

Some were labeled, others not. I know some was Ethiopian. Some welo opal just from the look. Couple jars of this pink looking opal that has flash of color too it, no clue what that stuff is. I dunno… coming across a lot of that was a real treat yesterday. I was more relieved to find material that I dug with my grandpa over 20 years ago that I assumed either got lost or given away. I’m actually cutting a cab of the material today, and will be the first to ever do so.

The pietersite might be chinese, or possibly it was cut with the intention to sell to them. The bi disk has been a shape Chinese carvers have made for a couple thousand years now. Chinese pietersite is kinda what I was thinking. I’m not sure what the purpose of the disks were, other than my grandma had some super nice necklaces of the blue material.

Usually it's the gold behind the false wall- but those pieces are certainly as good as it.
So when do you decide that it's all to much & you want to unload some it on the RTH marketplace I'm sure I'm not the only one waiting.

I actually did find some vials of gold in there too. Not a lot, but gold none the less

Awesome finds. You are one lucky rockhound and your grandpa is lucky you know rocks or these beauties would most likely be lost forever. The "disks" you posted pictures of look like what the beading world calls "donut beads" and are most often used for pendants.
