Going through some old photos and came across this close up. Probably done well over 1,000 of these but have only done 2 ever in gold filled. Really loved the look of gold with Malachite. I have seen discussions recently about wire all inside vs wire half in and half out. Personally I think all in looks like a more professional job. I do make an exception on very translucent stones because a deep groove and wire can be seen through the stone. In that case round wire half in and and half out as long as it is uniform look good. I do not think square wire ever looks good sticking out of a groove. Just my 2 cents on that subject. There are no rules. I cab the stones I want to cab and finish them how I want to finish them. That is what makes it a hobby. If I change what I am doing solely to please others that becomes a job. Happy Friday! Chuck

I prefer the flush set wire, too, but the other is also nice.

I prefer the flush set wire, too, but the other is also nice. I did not mention it but with round wire the only way I will use it is when it is a very shallow groove. If the groove is deep enough to flush the round wire then there is way to much stone showing in the groove for my liking. Chuck

Chuck, that is a great close up of a well-done groove wrap! I definitely respect your opinion and can see why you have the approach you do about it. Personally, I like it both ways...flush and "out". When the wire is sticking halfway out, I feel it can "frame" the piece - if it is done uniformly around the entire perimeter. I think it's one of those "different strokes for different folks" kinda things. Great example graphic in the above post by the way!!

Is that in my house? I think you gave that one or one very similar to Nancy. It's beautiful.

Is that in my house? I think you gave that one or one very similar to Nancy. It's beautiful. That is very possible. I remember telling her she could pick any pendant off the rack and that usually leads to trouble, lol. Like I said I have only done two and they were several years ago so I really have no idea where they ended up. Hopefully Nancy got it! Chuck

That is beautiful. I think the gold wire does make that malachite pop.
