This is some candy rhyolite, also known as sandstorm rhyolite, from Southern Nevada.

VegasJames, stones around times 3, 5-6, and 10-11 have some stones that should cut some great cabs. Very nice material.

Beautiful stuff. I found some similar near Goldfield a few years back. Yes these are from the Goldfield District. Not from the Gemfield claim though. I know several locations in the Goldfield District where I can find the candy rhyolite, common opals and some nice chalcedonies outside the claim. Also find bornite, turgite, moss agate, opalized and agatized wood, and a few other things in the Goldfield District. Great area for collecting.

vegasjames - Those are some beautiful stones. I live in the south east U.S. and I've traveled to Vegas many, many times, but never to rock hunt. Mostly to give up my salary to the casinos. I envy you living there. Those stones are georgous. Sounds like you find them in abundance.
Good luck in your hunting for those.

These area about 2.5-3 hours from Vegas. If you get out here when the weather is good can show you some places for different stuff. September on is pretty decent, although I will be busy the first about 2/3 of October.
