You find the most amazing stuff! All of it is simply beautiful. eta
This really got me!
Thanks.
I like this stuff a lot as well. It is hard and dense. Was also hard to find. Was hoping to explore the mine some more but it got taken over and is now an aerial gun range where they shoot machine guns from helicopters. Several mines in the area have been taken over and turned in to gun ranges.

Thank you for explaining vegasjames . As I said, I had to wonder , so many shades of colors, how to id must be difficult. Patty I'm glad you asked Patty because I was wondering also. It all looks like pretty blue rock to me! haha Hardness and acid dissolution tests can rule out chrysocolla really fast. A simple phosphate test can rule out other similar looking stones and only takes about 10 minutes. To rule out green variscite a Chelsea filter will do that. So it is like getting a medical diagnosis. Lots of tests to rule out possibilities narrowing down what it is.
If need be there are other tests that are easy to run such as spot tests or spectrometer reading.
In some cases I have sent specimens of things off to labs for more detailed analysis, such as with atomic absorption spectrometry. Unfortunately, AAS and XRF do not test for aluminum and so do not help much with identifying turquoise, variscite faussite and planerite.

Really Tommy , glad it's not just me. I mean they're pretty blue rocks & pretty green blue rocks. I tired to recently look up some small pieces of turquoise that someone gave me and found there are so many locations & variations it about could drive you crazy. So I think pretty blue rocks - and I'll let vegasjames do the chemistry

Now that is taking life & limb in jeopardy for rocks.
I'm afraid to ask - but hoping this is a military reservation, not just crazy people ! ?
Thanks for the show & tell,
Patty

Yes, I was surprised to find some of the locations where turquoise is found such as Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, Alabama, Arkansas, Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Ireland, Norway, etc.
And turquoise can have so many looks. No pattern, veined, orbed, and again about 70 shades of blues and greens. I have seen some that I would have never guessed were turquoise. Here are some examples

Yes, I have already found 5 good turquoise locations in Nevada and have one other that I want to check out sometime. And found small amounts at locations in Northern Arizona and Southern California. Those last 2 though are not as nice as the hard veined material from that mine though.
