jasoninsd I don’t know what’s more entertaining, reading about the show or reading the back and forth between you and mohs lol! I’m glad the show went good for you and you had some kind neighbors. Thanks Ashley! Oh...I have no problem hijacking my own threads! LOL I was SO blessed to have such amazing people around me at the show. They were super supportive knowing it was my first show...I was and am super grateful!

So glad you had a successful first show. I could tell by your past threads you were putting a lot of work into it. Did you move any belt buckles? What is the "free sample" material that kinda looks like asphalt?

jasoninsd I knew you’d do great at your show! So happy for you…I agree with Ashley the turn some of these threads take is always entertaining!! I’m Hoping to be ready for a small local show this summer! 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻 PM me if you want some polished Lake Erie stones. I’ve got a LOT!! Thanks Heather! Awesome that you're doing a show!! I can't emphasize enough how the nerves prior to the show weren't as necessary as I was thinking they were. I have my fingers crossed (well...some of them! LOL) that you're going to do well too! I am going to take you up on that offer for some polished pieces. I'll shoot you a PM tonight or tomorrow. Good looking booth there, jasoninsd . Glad it went well.
With your layout, you could do shows farther away pretty easily. Simple setup and teardown. That helps a LOT on Sunday evenings! At our show last year, I actually yelled out "WHO PUT ALL THIS CRAP IN OUR BOOTH...!!!" during teardown.
A neighbor across the aisle looked over with a shocked look on her face. She realized I was kidding when I said "Oh yeah - it was me... .". We all had a good laugh, and it made the work go by easier.
Some shows will go better than others. I'm glad your first one was good.
Thanks Vince! My setup was nothing compared to y'alls setup. I remember seeing the pics from your show! That's the kind of thing I would have yelled out too! LOL It was dead on Sunday, but I was going to hold out as long as I could. Most of the other venders had already packed up and left. I was twiddling my thumbs when my phone rang. It was my father-in-law...followed a few minutes later from my wife. Both calling and telling me there was severe weather on the way with a tornado warning for the area. I packed up in record time and made it home just in time before the downpour started...

What is the "free sample" material that kinda looks like asphalt? Thank you SO much! That is EXACTLY what it is - asphalt! LOL - It was a super fun "shock" for people...and a great ice-breaker because everyone who paid attention to it got a big laugh about it. I'd tell them to take as many pieces as they wanted! LOL I did sell one belt buckle. It was a turquoise one with the Crazy Lace. A lot of people looked at them, but didn't pick them up to even look at the prices. I think they're a great "option" to have...but I won't be stocking up on them like I thought I would be.

Your show seemed to be a good, manageable size for your first show and geared towards what you have a lot of. So, I'm really happy for you that it turned out so well and that you have gained invaluable lessons. From some of the cut throat stories I have heard, I'd say your neighbors were real angels.
Congrats on the sales. Feels good to know other people value your work, don't it? It's not always just about the money. It's a real confidence booster. But, we all knew you'd do well.

I am really happy that all went well with your big show! I personally don't mind your longer posts -they help me not feel like I'm alone in the stories. Whenever I see your face in pictures it kinda weirds me out (no offense! Not saying you're ugly) because ii picture you as your avatar for some reason. Your setup looks great, and I think sarcasm is a good idea. I'm glad to hear your sales were good. It means you can buy more rocks/equipment (or pay back debts lol). I might end up sharing a booth with my uncle, who is a jewelry artist sometime this summer downtown at The Davenport hotel event. Edit: I forgot to explain the Davenport. It's a big landmark in downtown Spokane where a bunch of vendors (not just rockers sadly) get together to sell stuff (not sure on specifics) out of booths like what you had set up, but indoors. I'd only have one table so I was thinking I might sell some tumbled rocks and maybe buy some settings to sell. I'm jealous of the people who self-support this hobby . Anyways, congrats and great job getting one down. I think once you do a show it proves that you are really into lapidary. -Nicholas

There's no doubt in my mind I could have - or likely would have - been able to do a show at all if it weren't for the amazing RTH community who have been so supportive in what I've tried to learn and achieve over the last year and a half. You, among SO many other people have been so willing to freely give their knowledge and time...and I'm SO grateful for being able to be a part of such a wonderful group of people. I was very grateful to receive the amount of positive feedback from the customers, the looky-lous, and the other venders who were there. In fact, I actually sold several pieces to several other venders... It definitely was a great experience...and I hope I took from it all that I could with regards to information to be used in future shows. I am really happy that all went well with your big show! I love writing...and wish I could have written what I had culminating in my head all weekend... You think I look like my dog? Well...we are wearing the same hat! LOL Might as well throw your hat in the ring with your uncle! It makes sense to share a space sometimes! I hope you are able to swing it and that it works out amazingly well for you!

The important thing is that you enjoyed the experience. Meeting people and getting the interchange is a major benefit. Contacts with customers, lookers, folks with different goals than you, and especially with your fellow venders, all provide a background to self assess your investment of time, materials and mental floss. You have a good attitude and momentum. Now hit the sledding hill and find some more rocks.

Patty Thanks Patty! Although I don't have anything to compare it to...I would say it was a successful show...both monetarily as well as educationally. LOL - We've just had about a week of rain almost every day...so now is definitely the time to get out there and do some more hounding!

Great results. I love the photo of the rockin' RTH shirt. Thanks Beth! There was NO way I wasn't going to try and pay homage to the amazing people who helped get me where I am today! The first day I had on the t-shirt that said "Coprolite - Proof you can polish a turd!" - I got a lot of comments on that one! LOL

Great report Jase and glad to see you had a good show. I got a chuckle when I read this quote from you below as I have a friend that resembled that remark. A few weeks ago he was fixing to enter a local Walmart and a woman approached him. She handed him $40. and said that he needed it more than she did. His wife later told him to shave and start wearing better clothing. jasoninsd said: "So, despite having a finger bandaged up like all get out... and despite me looking like a homeless vagrant (much to the chagrin of my wife!)...I had an amazing time this weekend"

perkins17 jasoninsdThat’s hilarious! Sorry I couldn’t not respond to your comment. You always picture his dog?! Your dog has some mad talent Jason lol!! He does some stellar wraps! I enjoy seeing everyone’s face. Makes it seem more real and less like talking to a screen. Good to finally see you smiling lol! Thanks for the laugh Nicholas!

You know I got it when perkins17 said that. You get images of people in your head when you don't know what they look like & when I saw Jason's jasoninsd photo in the "See your face" thread, I immediately said to my husband, boy I didn't picture him like that. And Tom responded," That's because his dog is clean shaven"

perkins17That’s funny! Maybe you should post a picture in the face behind the name post so we don’t associate you with a piece of lapidary equipment lol!

Congratulations on having a successful show. Saturday should be the best day. I don't know the culture where you live. Sunday can be a church or family activity day. There are a lot of facebook pages for lapidary and wire wrapping, Selling cabs moved from eBay to Etsy and many sellers have moved to facebook. Lower fees and easier set up. It all starts with good pictures and you already photograph your work. I don't consider a cab to be complete until I have taken listing pictures. Once you have a web presence you can give your link to customers at live shows. I did a few sports card shows with my son when sports cards were popular. At a show I would rather be a buyer than a seller and now I do all buying on the internet.

Well...I think every vender was praying for more people to show up...so it was kinda like church! LOL I was talking with a friend the other day, who has listed over 30,000 items for sale over the years...we were discussing what does and doesn't work in listings. Once I get a couple listings up, I'm going to have him look over the listings to get his opinion. Thank you for sharing your experience. I appreciate it.
