I am cutting a Brazilian agate and wanted to cut the res4t of the agate also into slabs. This is the system I use. I cut a piece of pet wood slightly larger than the agate, using super glue I glued a piece of cardboard to the wood, 4then glued the agate to the cardboard. Both pieces were degreased before gluing. By leaving the pet wood in vise, i get parallel slabs right up to the card board.

Bob, I seem to remember you doing that trick with a piece of lumber. I'm guessing this way gives you a slightly straighter slab on the last cut?

That's genius Bob! I think I've mentioned it before...but there's a trick when installing slate on a 3-piece slate table. You can actually glue the pieces of slate together with an index card and superglue. It holds amazingly well. Super smart way not to waste material!! Way to go!

I tried this on a large rock and the oil turned the cardboard to mush. Small rocks, water glass. Large rocks, wood glue. Both glued to a board.

Fished with the cutting, miscalculated a bit, the last one ended up a bit thicker, but I have plent4y for what I am doing with these. Still glued to the host. I will put it in an oven to break the superglue bond.
