jasoninsdThank you Jason! I will let her know. She beat out bigger sister in a Rock Paper Scissors duel to see who got to go first lol. I’m glad she won though, she likes rocks the most out of the kiddos. Now big sister has hers in, then it’s little brothers turn.

She got a really nice shine on those! Tell her for me that she did a shiny-licious job.
It's so cool you all enjoy rocks together. Those bonding times will really stick with them through life.

Very nice! I also spotted a nice little green one on there. Love those! Might I ask what your procedure was?

Way to go ashley, they look great! So much more fun for the kids with a vibe, because it’s so much faster. Now with your children on the loose, no rock is safe in Illinois. 😎

markbThank you Mark! It is so much faster and rewarding. I’m patient with somethings but not rocks. Maybe I will be later on. Though I do have a batch of petrified wood that I got from Randy (rwa3006) that’s been in the rotary for about a month and a half now. I guess having the lot o to do other things with while the rotary goes helps.

Gabriel_GERThank you Gabriel! My husband really likes the green ones, so they have grow on me too. They are fairly common at Lake Michigan, but not as abundant as other material. As for the process I’m using a lot-o tumbler. I tend to go with a set schedule to guide me but really just wing it from there. The picture is what I start with but I do these in the 120/220 SC for around 3-4 days because I don’t do them in the rotary. With her rocks we also went 4 or 5 days in the 500 AO b/c I didn’t think they were where they should be with their pre shine. With the final polish we went 2 days. (Also most people do 2 tablespoons with the 120/220 but for me it required a lot more watering and tending to them b/c they were drying out easier. I went down to 1 tablespoon and have gotten the same results. Plus it saves me a bit of money)

I can not - for the life of mine - find 500 AO here, but if that is the case I guess I really have to go beyond (my life? ) to find some. Well as soon I find a Lot-O in Germany I'll add it to my collection. Gotta try it all and gain experience, right?
Again: Really beautiful batch!

Gabriel_GERYes, after the 500AO there is a shine to them. Sorry you can’t find some things there. I wonder if the Rock Shed ships internationally? It would be worth it. There grit is what I use and what everyone else recommends for the most part.

Those look great ashley. Your daughter did good. One of my kids used to help me clean out tumblers. It was good father/daughter bonding time.

ashleyOne of my favorite rock tumbling stories comes from cleaning out a tumbler with my daughter. I always sit on a step stool during cleanouts. My daughter wanted to help so I put a three foot long board on the step stool so she would have a place to sit. We both sat on one end of the board and started cleaning. I hopped up to get some more water. I heard a thud and a “hey” from my daughter. I looked back to see her rolling around on the floor. I had forgotten that the end she was sitting on was cantilevered off the end of the step stool. Without my weight she dropped like a sack of rocks.
