I just this morning came across this site. What do YOU think Good-Bad? howtofindrocks.com/howtofindrocks.com/rockhounding-in-utah/In Utah, you can find gold, diamonds, opals, geodes, jade, jasper, obsidian, megalodon teeth, garnets, malachite, selenite, topaz, and several other specimens. Some of the best rockhounding sites are the Topaz Mountain, Dugway Geode Beds, and, in general, the old mining dumps and rocky outcrops. The brilliant part about Utah is that there are plenty of rockhounding sites available throughout the state. The gravels of streams draw, and washes contain various noteworthy collectible specimens that enthusiasts can enjoy. But let’s see where exactly you can rockhound in Utah. jamesp? howtofindrocks.com/rockhounding-in-state-of-georgia/

Whoever put up this site must want to sell books and stuff. They are dropping locations, but not specifics. They say you can find turquoise in Oregon. That’s news to me! I’m guessing they got their information from some old geology State bulletins.

Cucumber! *I went back to check the site out a little more. There was a link on the howtofindrocks site that took me to another website with a list of hounding places in South Dakota. It was VERY poorly written...to the point where someone who doesn't know South Dakota or the locations to go hounding, they'd never be able to actually find the locations. Sad...

Here's the dude who put it together. Looks like he's just trying to make a buck on the rockhounding scene in America. Do you see where he's from? Slovakia. That pretty much explains the problem.

Yep - each state had a link for buying a book. Maybe the guy gets a "commission" for purchases made through his site links.

A lot of the Virginia info is quoted from old sources and no longer valid.

You know? I was thinking that that clown was probably from another country because of the slight difference in diction.

Careful, y'all - a slight difference in diction could just mean he's from Virginia, and not over 'yonder in some furrin' country. After all, I'm from Virginia... .
HI, TELA...!

I checked on what he had to say about Wyoming, which is my home state and I know it well. It was obvious to me that he had simply lifted information from other publications to produce his material about it as if he were an authority. A significant amount of his information was simply wrong or obsolete at best.
I consider the guy to be a charlatan and a poseur and I'd actually take a modest bet that he's never set foot in my home state in spite of his claiming he's rock hounded all over the USA.

Unedited, unreviewed. Garbage in, garbage out. A copy machine and a cut and paste function do not make an expert. Welcome to the electronic age.

Okay, Washington's wasn't horrible, but it certainly wasn't great. The sites referenced are very out of date. Horse heaven hills is referenced, which is a huge span of hills in the Tri-city area that is absolutely barren of anything except for sagebrush and rattle snakes. "Fossilized wood" is used a lot as well. Which type? Opalized, agatized, ect. The mount Adams area is referenced as one of the best sites in Washington as well. It is near Yakima, where I was born, and I've never heard of anything good coming out of there, both in books and in person. He did alright, but I wouldn't recommend this to new rockhounds.

Was not impressed. I checked Nevada since I know locations from North to South. We do not have a Tonopah County. Tonopah is a town in Nye County. And many of the locations is stating are places such as parks that are illegal to collect in. Looks like he has never been to the places, he is just reading about locations without actually researching about the locations.
