I was going to go back to the sale in Ceres this morning but as I was having my morning coffee and perusing Craigslist I saw an ad for a 6 wheel 6" lapidary grinder. It looked decent and he was asking $200. It was about 1 3/4 hours away. I contacted him and he still had it. I didn't get a response about any other equipment. Made arrangements to go check it out. I ended up with the grinder. There's a lot of wear on the Nova wheels but it runs smooth and there's some extras including a crosshatched 80 hardwheel that's never been used. So, I got the grinder, a buffer, a Barranca Diamond 4" wet polisher kit and a 24" slab saw in good working condition. He's going to throw in some rocks too. Total of $1050. I've wanted a saw for a while. A 24 is larger than what I needed or wanted but for $700 it wasn't staying there! As thrilled as I am about my purchases I'm still upset that I missed the 16" Highland Park that he sold yesterday for $400!

Definitely a good score! Now you'll be cooking with gas...
Nice finds, and it pretty much just fell in your lap. Plop!

Good for you! No doubt you'll be able to trade the 24" to someone who wants to move up from a smaller saw.

You did great, if you ask me! The 24" is big, but when you have a big boulder and it won't fit on your 20", then it's perfect!

In my experience big saws cut fast, yes they take a lot of oil to start up, but if the vice is a good design you can cut little stuff as well as big stuff and be happy all around. Treat the blade nicely. . . pay me now or pay me again when you buy a new blade.

The good things are I have room for it. It's on casters and plugs into 120v (motor is convertible to 240v) and I got oil with it. It looks clean and is regular lapidary cutting oil. The feed speed is changed by moving a belt on a 3 step pulley. It's on the lowest speed now. I think I'll just leave it there. I'm not in that big of a hurry. So as long as I keep my oil clean and clamp my rocks well the blade should be happy!

Went back today to pick up the saw. I came back with a lot of rough rock. I also purchased his rock tumblers. A Harbor Freight single barrel, a Thumler Model B, a homemade unit that takes 2 model B tubs, a spare model B barrel and a Loretone QT66. Unfortunately he called me when I was already too far down the road to let me know he had grit. So I missed out on about 85 pounds of coarse and medium for $45! I also got a Raytech 15" vibrating lap. It's missing the 3 balls so he gave it to me. I've already found them on Ebay.

When do we see it? That is a fantastic deal, the 24 alone is worth over twice what you paid for it all.

Haha that's awesome! The same guy had a 24" Frantom that needed some work on the split nut that I picked up on Friday for an exceptional deal. It was a super hard hard choice between the two 24" saws, but the Frantom was calling my name lol. Glad someone on the forum got the other 24"! You got an amazing deal on all that equipment and the basically new blade on the 24" you got is icing on the cake. His prices were extremely reasonable.
I picked up a bunch of nice rough on Friday and went back today with the wife and picked up a ton more, at mostly $0.25-$0.50 a pound it was a no brainer.
It's funny because I was planning on leaving work early for the Ceres estate sale on Friday but saw his ad the night before and went that route.

goldfinder I think this was a much better sale for rough than Ceres. There was good stuff, it was cheaper and a lot easier to go through. Plus I got to back my van and trailer right up to it. No hauling! Are you the one that got the Montana Agate rough? He said someone got some nice chunks the day before.

Yeah I did pick up the Montana Agates, at only $1 for the smaller ones and $2 for the large ones it was an easy choice. Got about 3/4 of a bucket of them. There was some left when I left on Friday. Thanks a lot for your detailed info on the Ceres estate sale, it helped guide my choice to explore this other option when it popped up on Friday. Bought around 150 pounds of rough on Friday when I bought the other 24". We were in the neighborhood yesterday afternoon and ended up picked up around another 300 pounds. That's just a small portion of what he's got available. Lots of material left for anyone local and willing to dig through someone's old rock piles lol. Super nice folks and was happy to give them business.
