Very nice! I really like the ammonite in the first picture. I love rock shops.

perkins17Thanks Nicholas. I do too! The lady who owns the shop is really kind and knowledgeable. She’s only 5 minutes down the road too which is really nice.

Lucky you ashley - a rock shop near by :-)
The ammonite is cool, but what is the rock in the 4th photo with the nice pattern ?

liveoakOh Patty, I knew someone would ask and I forgot to write down the name lol! I’m 99% sure the name began with an m and it was from Indonesia if I remember correctly. Maybe someone else knows the id. Maybe vegasjames rmf Tommy jamesp realrockhound. They are a few that I know that are ID savvy!

Nice score ashley . Here's a tip, next time you go to the rock shop, take a photo of the rock you're buying with your phone, and then name the photo what she tells you it is. OR- My primitive method- bring some painters tape with you & a pen & mark the rock. (that's faster & more likely to happen in reality :-) I'm afraid to ask if you're going to break it up to tumble Patty

liveoakNo I will leave it intact! It’s pretty like it is. It’s face polished, not the best polish but it’s acceptable. Maybe later down the road I will hand polish the face so it’s shiny-er than it is now.

I was cringing at the thought of the hammer - I mean cut up for a cab would be good
But Yes it would make a nice specimen

Score! Nice finds ashley. Buying slabs eh? I see a cab machine in your future. I got my 16” saw going the other day. I posted slab photos in the slabs and saws section. Be sure to talk to us before buying a cab machine. I’m on my third one which will last me the rest of my life. I currently own two having given one to a friend last year.

Sabre52Thanks Mel! It sort of reminds me of the shape of Africa, perhaps a bit deformed.

Good job, ashley! Loving that Indonesian Marcasite and it will make some awesome cabs when you get to that point.
