What is this? Does not appear to be quartzite. Found at location on my avatar. Milk can lid for size reference. Thank you. Same as above, but lace area wet.

Looks like a mix of common quartz (macrocrystalline quartz) and chalcedony (cryptocrytstalline quartz).

Grey Chert, and whats a milk can lid? A milk can lid is what goes on top of a milk can. This one is about 14" across. The rock is more like quartz than chert. The one area with layers is a little cherty.

Please, when you ask for an ID, post relevant info upfront, if you note translucency mention it and post an image of it if possible. But from these images I don't see any translucency.
I still contend based on these images it most resembles a weathered, banded, glacially deposited, gray Chert nodule. I say this with confidence because being from the same general area with the same glacial til I have collected and seen many, many similar Chert nodules. Ok, now its attractive with its varying shades of grey color and interesting bands etc..but it is still technically a Chert rock, if you think it is possibly a macro crystalline Quartz you would need to likely break off a piece to confirm.

fuss Sorry for the confusion. The strange looking area in the 2nd photo looks like plain, gray chert. The darkest areas are a deep blue. Most of the rock is translucent, like a milky quartz. I thought it was unusual with the banding, pits and cherty area.
