It says to introduce yourself to the group, so hello everyone. I’m really excited to have heard about this site. I’ve learned so much just from reading other individual’s questions and the extremely insightful, helpful, and kind responses of the members here and decided this is a community I’d love to be a part of.
I’ve been collecting rocks (and occasionally licking them when necessary) for as long as I can remember but I got serious about it a little over a year ago (I’m 32 currently). Moving from using just a double barrel Harbor Freight rotary tumbler (which, despite the occasional few drops of oil, is still running great) to a Loratone QT-6 and a Lotto Tumbler just increased my fascination with the process and product. I live in Northwest Minnesota, and found a great rock club to join and have been picking up pieces of used equipment as quickly as I can find it/ pay for it. I purchased an old trim saw from the club, an arbor that holds one wheel (six” I believe) and a polishing wheel of some sort. My largest recent purchase had been a HighlandPark model B10 combination unit that has a trim saw attached to one motor and a large wheel where one can loosen a bolt and change/ replace different grit sandpaper(?)/mesh, I’m not sure about the terminology, and then the unit has a more typical two hard wheels in a splashguard housing, and a leather(?) wheel for polishing I assume. The splashguard housing the hard wheels has a gravity fed water system.
Sorry for the super long message, I guess all of this is to say, I’m hoping to clean up this equipment I purchased and make sure I’m using things in the correct/ safe way, to take advantage of all the functionality these machines have to offer, and I figured this looks like an excellent place to take some of my questions as I go through this process.
Thanks again in advance,
-Macaroni

Welcome from Northern Arizona! I'm sure you've already found it, but the Lapidary Equipment board has a wealth of information in it as well as its DIY Project Page sub-board.

Hello, and welcome for central California! B-10 is a nice sturdy unit. I'm using an HP machine that is just like yours minus the saw. The wheel on the left is usually referred to as a thumper. You'll find out why if you use it. I added water to the left side an changed the thumper for a 8X3 rubber expanding sanding drum.
