I've had this rock for about five years, but hadn't done anything with it. Found it out at Woodward Ranch. I'd broken and tumbled a few pieces, so now I decided to slab it, and this is what came out. This is the rock in the rough. This is the other side, and how it looked broken. Here are the slabs that came out. These are the pre-form cabs from the slabs. All In One Cabbing Machine. Cab after the 220 mesh wheel. Cab after the 1200 mesh wheel. Cab after 15,000 diamond paste on wheel. (Lighting is a little different.) I don't think I will be cabbing all the slabs. Too much goes to waste in cutting, so what I will do is place them in the vibrating tumbler, and be able to have the entire polished slab. Thanks for looking. Condor

That's a good looking cab and slabs. I liked the pics showing it going through the process.

Howdy Condor. Man that is one fine bunch of dendritic slabs. Looks as good as Parral Dendritic Agate out of Chihuahua. I've been all over that ranch three times and I've found lots of black plume but none that good. Now tell the truth. Did that hunk come from the piles of Mexican material he has stacked up for sale around the shop or did you find that beauty out in the canyons? Whatever, man you scored on that one...beautiful!!!!....mel

You know me too well Gaetzter. I've already been to the desert to collect some of the local rocks. My plan is to mostly fill up the forty pound tumbler with desert rocks and redos that I have and are already rounded. Reason for this is that I have a five pound pineapple shaped rock that I bought at Discount Agate House in Tucson. This rock is fairly smooth already. By using smaller rounded rocks, I hope to be able to polish the larger one. I'm looking at a couple of months here. Hope it works.
Sabre52, the way I got that dentridic agate was that I had taken some students out on an overnight rockhunting field trip. Trey, the owner of the Ranch let us have full reign of the place, and he took us to an area which he recently aquired. We ended up with lots of agates. To be honest though, I sometimes buy from what he has there which is always good stuff.

Condor: I've bought form their Mexican stock too. Lots of good material there sometimes. Great to hear the owners have acquired still more land. I love that place and maybe it'll give me incentive to try another trip soon....mel

Just goes to show - never judge a rock by its cover! It's amazing to see what beauty lurks beneath the surface. Kinda like people, wouldn't ya say???

Love Dendrite Agate- Just got some Wyoming from Banjo (fun stuff) and I have some from the Box- great job on the cab- but I can see that there was a lot of waste- I can't wait to see the slabs all shined up!
