I tend to get kidney stones fairly regularly and I couldn’t help but wonder if it would be possible to add facets because “why the hell not!?” Has anyone ever tried such a fools errand?

I’ve never had a kidney stone. Are they hard enough? I hope you give it a try and let us know!!

Believe it or not Google is your friend. I looked it up. Kidney stones are a mix of a heap of different minerals ranging from hardness 1 to hardness 2.4 so all in all very soft stuff, it would be a pain in the kidneys (close anyway) to work.

I googled it. Learned that someone passed pyramid stones and other faceted stones in the early 1900s. I saw it on the internet!!😁

There are various types of kidney stones varying in hardness from as low as 1.5 for some struvite stones, up to 5 for calcium phosphate stones. So theoretically, the harder forms of kidney stones such as calcium phosphate or calcium oxalate stones could be faceted. Although, in order to pass one it would have to be pretty small to begin with or broken up.
Now gallstones on the other hand can get much larger and can naturally facet when there are multiple stones in the gallbladder grinding against each other. To pass one the stone would still have to be very tiny since the bile ducts only dilate to 8mm maximum. Surgically removed gallstone may be large enough to facet.

Is that before or after they passed?
You could probably cab one if you used a stabilizer on it like Opticon. Most of them are too small to bother, but you never know. It could become a hot badge of courage to wear.

Oh they are terrible. I drink tons of water hoping to never get one again. That’s one stone I don’t want in my collection. BTW most of them are basically calcium based so very soft and probably not fluorescent lol.
