Last Thursday it was time for Rißbach again. Last time I had a fantastic trip, so was really curious what the region further up would look like. Well... see pics below. Nature and landscape? Great. While moving along the dry river bed there was always sorting new coming up to draw my attention.
My English vocabulary unfortunately is not sufficient enough for an elaborate description... so I let the pictures speak for themself. Stones? Plenty - as you can see. Just not really something to pick up. BUT! I had a really good time, picking up a lot of driftwood. I love those twisted and bent pieces... so I was honestly kinda happy that I only saw a few stones that convinced me to bring them with me. Ended the day in the Fischbach Gumpen I discovered on my last trip. And as usual: ZERO ppl. around.
I can't quite understand why folks in the city overcrowd all the green spots in the city and turn them into a chaotic,
loud, aggressive horror show. But then again... I'm quite ok with them NOT being out there. Wonderful time. Can only recommend!

Gabriel_GER Looking at the banks along the river , there seems to be different layers of sediment - have you ever looked for fossils there ? You might find them in one of the layers. I also wonder how that ancient motorcycle (like WW II era) got there ? Someone rode it in that far & never made it back out. Did you find his bones along side it ?
Thanks for the photo trip. Keep em coming,
Patty

Fossiles? God I wish...
Honestly no idea how to look for those - and in which of the layers to look. I really need to educate myself on that in general. Picking rocks that are not "nature pr-tumbled" by a stream are hard for me to identify as "worthy". That bike did just lie there... amongst some other stuff. And yes... ironically I actually DID find an assortment of bones on this trip.
I will! Have a great day!

Just a suggestion, Gabriel . . . .a little judicious photo editing before posting wouldn’t hurt your reports.

Gabriel_GER Is there an active or dormant volcano nearby? That layering reminds me of the ash flows I've seen on some videos.

Around here , in NW Florida, on some of the rivers there are layers of fossil shells,
some places fossil sharks teeth, some places fossil bones, trilobites, etc in the banks of the river .
I have no idea if you might find anything like that where you are , but it might be worth looking.
You never know.
Patty ... who likes fossils & has no native rocks locally except limestone.

I really don't know how you have any room for improvement in your picture posting Gabriel...as always, it's amazing and much appreciated! I chuckled at the picture of your overflowing backpack. LOL - This thread was apparently about "sticks and stones"!

I love your photos & look forward to your trip reports Gabriel_GER, please don't change anything or degrade the photos, they are absolutely beautiful & make me wish I was there. Keep up the good work.
I'll never get to travel where you are, but through your photos I can enjoy the beauty.
Cheers, Patty

Beautiful as always! Wish I could buy a piece of that and escape there. I’m assuming that is public land?

Thing is: I can absolutely unterstand parfive 's POV. If this would just have been about presenting the "top ten shots" of the trip... there is A LOT that would not have made it,
as quite a few of the pictures basically show the same motive and yes - I absolutely acknowledge - there is a repetitiveness to that.
My intention though, is different. I bring you on the trip with me. So you see what I see while I move along.
Am I gonna see the same mountain numerous times while making my way towards it? Yes.
Am I gonna stop from time to time to observe it with a smile cos it simply looks striking - to me - in that moment? Absolutely!
So: That is what you see in those pictures as I bring you along. What I observed, what made me smile, what I enjoyed. And yes: That CAN be the basically same mountain for 20 times as the cloud formations change, the viewpoints change, the position of the sun changes, etc. etc.
It's the way I do it for my trip reports and I hope this explains why I do it that way. You walk with me - you see what I enjoy.
I might be a bit more self critical in the future when it comes to repetitiveness - it never hurts to rethink and reassess.
So again: Thanks for everyone's feedback and criticism!
Will be in South tyrol for the knight games from Friday till Sunday. Let's see if there is some stone art... or a nearby river to explore.

Since I don't speak or read German I have no idea exactly what the Knight Games are -
But I'm imagining it a reenactment festival with people dressed as knights ( armor) and jousting, with probably good food & beer. Are you participating or just watching ?
Looks fun- and heck since I can't make it this weekend, I hope you'll take a photo of 2 to share

Looked at it with my browser translator. It appears to be what we would call a Renaissance Faire, German style. Love those. Lots of fun! Gabriel_GER have a great time and take LOTS of pictures!

Right on the money! A good friend of mine is celebrating her birthday there as she knows some of the showmen attending the event.
So we will have access "behind the scenes" and CAN actually help out a litte - if we want to - in a medieval bakery.
I'll take some nice pictures, look for some beautiful knives and tools and ... will definitively take a litte detour into the surrounding nature.
AND: Enjoy all the food and hopefully some tasty spirits as beer is pure horror to my taste-buds. (I know... very UN-German of me. )

OK, not ever body likes beer, but a medieval German would drink mead.
So how about some nice honey mead.
That would go nice with some buttered pumpernickel bread from the bakery.
Have fun - take pictures
