Just clocked all my loretone barrels and there is a crazy amount of variation due to barrel size. 1.5 = 48 rpm 3 ( in a 33b ) = 30 rpm 4 ( off market barrel in a lortone base ) = 28 rpm 6 ( in a qt66 ) = 31 rpm 12 = 24 rpm
Quite a bit of variation but I’m thinking that 12 lb barrel should be at least 30. It doesn’t cut down rough nearly as fast as the 6 lbs. I don’t see any way to increase the rpms on this unit.
Thoughts….

Just checked my 6 lb tumbler. It’s at 30 rpm , when I built it I had a different pulley, was going 40 rpm, changed the pulley to go 30rpm. Getting the pulleys right was just a guessing game. I believe I read on here you want a 6 lb barrel going at 30 rpm. I’m happy with the grinding they do. As to lortone, I think you are stuck.

Very interesting My 33A runs at 60 RPM and I thought it has the same motor as a 33B ?

This 33b I have is old though, I bought it used and have been running it non stop for a couple years. Is yours a newer unit with the octagon shaped barrel inside?

Yes it has the octagon shape inside the barrel. Bought it new in 2016. Comparing a 3 and 6 pound barrel, Somebody on here was telling me that the Outside Surface of the barrels are moving at the same speed but the different barrel sizes cause the difference in speed.

Has anyone found a good way to increase the RPM's of their tumblers? I have a Thumler Model B (15lb barrel) that runs at 16 RPM that I would like to speed up to 20-25 RPM. I was thinking of using electrical tape (or something like that) to increase the circumference of the roller shaft. I think the main reason it is running slow is because the belt is constantly slipping, so increasing the circumference of the roller would probably make that worse.
