Wonder how many more Mexicans will be headed this way now. LOL. The pot farms in northern Ca need cheap labor.

If ya come thru northern South Dakota on your way back east, I have 4 acres just north of the house ya can set up on. Plenty of alfalfa / field grass mix for your horse to graze on too.

I buy my belts through this outfit. www.vbeltsupply.com/ They're quick shipping with reasonable prices. Just take your broken belt, stretch it out & measure it.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned. The direction the nut on your arbor tightens. If you're running the motor clockwise rotation, you'll want an arbor with a left hand threaded nut. Reason being if the nut tightens in the same direction as the motor rotates, it's possible that the nut will back itself off. Your lap disc will begin to flop around, ruining the center hole and possibly doing damage to you as well. If both turn in the same direction, you can cure this possible problem by switching the rotation of the motor. No need to buy a left hand arbor.

Why Quartzsite ? WHY QUARTZSITE ? You like rocks, and yet you ask "Why Quartzsite"? Every rockahaulic should do Quartzsite at least a couple of times in their lifetime. More rocks & rock people than you can shake a stick at. Rocks you've never seen before. Rock names you can't even pronounce. And if you happen to like minerals or fossils, pure heaven. Just bring plenty of money or you'll be going home early. Oh, & have overload springs installed in your car or truck. Get to know the local rock clubs while you're there, and tag along on a few of their hounding trips. Great people with access to private, club owned dig sites.

"Allowing people who lack a rudimentary understanding of how the system works to vote (or serve on a jury)to me is like having the rank-and-file soldier vote on the best military strategy."
LOL, I've known more than a few military officers who didn't have sense enough to wipe their butts too. But any rank - and - file soldier who has seen combat understands strategy.
It boils down to common sense. I've known a few hill people with more common sense than some college graduates with fancy degrees. Often life experience outweighs all of the fancy degrees in the world.

My bad. I forgot to welcome you to the forum.
You're quite welcome. Feel free to ask any rock, mineral or fossil questions you and your son like. Someone on here will be able to give you an answer.

It's a small piece of what would be called a death plate. The round donut looking things, and the long segmented things in pic 2 are crinoid stems.

Don giving is sometimes greater than "getting"! Your trucker friend is a great guy! Goes both ways. The last time he was here, he left here with between 500 & 700 lbs of rock. Trip before that it was a like new 20" HP vibrolap. I'm starting to weed out some of my material so my wife isn't stuck with unloading it when I'm gone. Bob has been a very good friend for quite a few years, So I'm passing much of it on to him. In return when his job brings him this way, instead of loading me down with rock, (which is his nature. Just ask Mike), he brings me a few nice specimen pieces which he's self collected on his travels.

LOL, thanks for the invite, but I live 6 - 1/2 hours away from the Black Hills. I'm up in the north east corner of the state.

Hey Tom,
If I can find the map, you can have them both for the cost of postage. I'm too damned old to be packing loads of rocks out of the back country. I won't be needing them any more.

Don that is a super nice specimen. He is a good friend to gift that to you. He is at that Scott. Couldn't ask for a nicer, more generous friend. Just ask Mike / fossilman. He knows him. He also left this with me. A nice big selenite specimen that I've been slowly cleaning up. I'll have to ask him where he collected it.

Boy, if it had been a snake it would have bit me. The Delorme map book was sitting right beside me, buried under a pile of rock books & stuff. Now if only finding the other map were that easy. LOL

Hi Don, That sounds like exactly the thing I want, I did get a map from the rangers in Wall, he marked several spots for me. I never found anything for sale but I will try the visitors centers for sure next year. Thanks for the kind offer I will definitely give you a shout when I am coming back in June or July. I love South Dakota, I just cant wait:) I would love to try some private land, thanks a lot. Tom Tom, I have the map here too. It may take a couple days to dig it out though. My filing system is terrible.
