Dang, spent a summer vacation out that way ... didn't realize that area had fossils. Great article, thanks for sharing.

Wow, those are some huge rocks for the barrel size. They look like they're coming along nicely though. That's some really nice rock too. Yeah, I wasn't sure they'd tumble well in three pound barrel but .... what the hey ... figured I'd give it a shot. LOL. I sort of regret buying the smaller barrels but it seems to work okay for the amount of time I get to spend with the hobby right now.

Your tumbles to date are very nice, that's for sure, but the REAL long-term accomplishment you have made is the quality time spent with your boys. Enjoy it to the max, as too soon, they will be adults! Well said! They grow up so fast. Days are precious and not to be wasted as they only come around once. Thanks for the compliments on the tumbles.

Your kidlets must love those! As the boys are growing up, their interests are changing. They still enjoy going out to rockhound but both are developing their own unique interests, which is a lot of fun. Andrew has picked up rock climbing and was going to the gym about three times a week during summer...less now that school has started but he got to know the staff at the local climbing gym and got proficient pretty quickly. Now he wants to try it outdoors (Barbara's all freaked out about that), so I'll find a place down here, maybe Devil's Punchbowl or Joshua Tree NP. Both are reputed to be excellent climbing locations. I'll be the safety guy since my shoulders won't handle this type of activity. Nathaniel has taken up shooting with me so a couple of times this summer, we combined rock hounding with some target practice. He's pretty good and pretty careful, treating the firearms and practice with the appropriate respect. It also got blazing hot out in the desert... All that to say that Dad has his hands full planning out weekends with the Boyz ... for which I am eternally grateful! Of course, Barbara's not entirely sure about all these "guy" activities. LOL.

Those are looking great , I am working on 50lbs right now from Sabre52. Its really neat stuff. If he list any more and anyone has not purchased from him before I recommend it. Or maybe I should say it no good for nothing rock. So I can have it all to myself. I still have three more boxes waiting to be opened at the office. x2 on the recommendation. These are fun agates to work with. Reminds me a bit of those Brazilian whats-it agates that I tried out a couple of years ago. They were fun too.

They are a challenge to photograph due to glare. Photos hardly do them justice, especially from the macro viewpoint. Looks like you have tumbled off the patina and down to the treasure. Nice bigguns Yeah, no joke about the photography part. Those were from the camera-phone, which isn't too bad. My favorite is still this little Sony 10MP guy that I got on sale years ago at Best Buy. It has a macro focus and, as long as you're working in daylight, is an awesome camera. Anything else, it's a joke but for outside broad daylight, I love it. I'm going to run these in the 46/70 for at least a couple more weeks to make sure that the small pits and such are gone. Mel's package provided a lot. There's a bunch of cutting material that I haven't had a chance to get through yet.

By the way ... x2 on the backyard comments. That's an awesome area to work with! My slave camp for 25 years Paul. Funny, I was just watching "Uncommon Valor" and I thought I saw your place in the "intelligence photos" that Gene Hackman was using.

orrum - yeah, at each recharge I ended up restocking with the smaller pieces. I had bought to boxes from Mel, one tumbling, one slabbing and am adding both into this barrels. Chuck ( Drummond Island Rocks), thanks, I'm eager to see how these are going to turn out.
