Like the close up photo. Snakes incredible. Looking a bit better now that they are all finally polished up.

Wow, half the month gone and no entries yet. Whats happening, the theme does not get much easier than that. OK, so Im going first then. Darker Brazilian that I will utilize as a carving blank for the future. The rough Preform Will try to get a more colourful picture when the sun comes out. Today, my camera simply does not wanna get the colour right. Thanks for looking, Kurt

Absolutely agree with that Lapis. Looks fabulous, but my favorite here is the Tiger Eye/Tigger.

Very nice, Kurt. As much as I liked the white coral, the darker coral looks even better, more like a snake. I like your beach scene, too. Good luck with the competition. Don't worry about the face, it will come to you. Nothing to worry about the Challenge. Its intended to create a situation where one challenges oneself rather than the others. To me, the albino-effect of the first is more attractive. Its one-sided instead of two-sided, like the other two, and is much simpler, yet holds much more attraction on me. The first is definitely mine. One of the other two, I'm ready to give up, and will see if I can get one more albino-baby out of the remains of the slab, once I know how much of it is needed for the Snow Leopard. Keep at it Kurt. Soon you will have a mating ball. Got a fantastic video of those things in on of the episodes of "Wild Canada"

OK, so number 3 is underway. This time there are a few soft spots to work around, and/or to include in overall design. This time also, back and front lines up. First two Back and front of number 3 Solo Sanding stage 400grit paper And started another Brazilian for "Fire & Ice" Challenge on FB As usual, stuck on the face, yet again. Thanks for looking, Kurt

Wonderful creation. Cabocarving? Because of the inside curve, the added line down the center, or because of the heart top? Like the Term!.....

The coral works extremely well for snake skin. Almost looks real. Jim Yes it does. And now I condemned myself to make two more.

Both are superb but I am thinking the arrowhead would be tougher to do with a rotary tool because of the long flat areas. Jim Not really, as the size pretty much conforms to my 2 inch blade. started a new snake, after a rather huge response to the first one, including from a friend who asked for something last year, but never came up with a design she wanted. Now I slowly fell in love with the second one too, and dont want to give either of them away. So, looks like, I gotta make a third, and then let her choose from this one or the third. First one is simple, but I like it better despite of improved design in the second.

What a feast for every taste. Stupendous colours, and incredible workmanship. Personally I like Row 3 - Apache Sage and the blue Biggs best. The lines in the biggs stand out in contrast to the underlying material to the point that it nearly has a 3D effect. But the on a second look, or might have been the third ; that Ocean Picture Rock in row four is just mind boggling.

Just look at all those fantastic colours. What a feast to look at. Cant understand why you folks think that cabs can't stand out in a contest with carvers.... Too many favorites stand out here, but I think the last in the third row and 3 + 4 in row 5 are on top for me for shape impeccable workmanship and colour. .

Does an arrow head count? Straight lines and planes, just 4 extra frills and two small incisions that could not be done at that angle on flat-lap. Keep your coral snake out of this bud! I saw it on FB and it is a show stopper for sure Never planed for that little girl to be in the contest. In progress of making a little brother for her. Then will post both of them at RTH, but not for contest. What I had on mind here, was an arrowhead, but due to inward curves, and angles that can not be achieved with normal wheels, I can not enter that one either. Might still have something of the unusual sort coming up, and then while no chance for a win, no-one can dispute the term cab.

Pretty much an accurate picture you are painting there, yet while we talk about China, I cant help but notice very similar things all over the first world too. China has done things in 30 years that the first world needed a hundred for, and a lot is driven by first world greed.
The government can turn a blind eye at every corner, simply because if they have to shut their doors to the outside-world, the demand for goods internally is still great enough to survive their 10 year plans. No-one looks, to their neighbors. The only concern is for their own immediate needs, and anyone who made policies is not expected to be around when they collapse.
Everyone likes to point at China these days, simply because they proved to be able to be better at greed than the ones who taught them (and continue to do so) in the first place.

Air quality is a huge problem over here. They always tell us that smoking kills ( which is certainly true). But I think it's a convenient way of explaining away a lot of cancers and eventual deaths that are more likely to origin in airpolution. The fact that a lot of non-smokers die of the same maladies is simply ignored and deliberately buried under lots of statistics.

That coral is unusual. It has random shaped corallite structure. Looks more like a bryozoan which would be a rare one since they don't preserve well being soft tissue. Hi there James, got some clear pictures, but the system here including PM resizes pictures. Please send pm with your email, so I can send fullsize pictures for you to have a look at.
