Well I'm up at 5 and on the train at 6. Running at 9:30.
Training has gone ok though I've only done 8 hilly miles at most. It's going to be tough, but the weather is going to be kind today (hopefully).
Wish me luck and I'll catch you guys later ...

Sorry to hear of your issues. My mum has recently had a sight scare and has very poor vision. What do you require in terms of glasses? $1200 seems very steep. Do you have a prescription or do you also need treatment?

Thank you for all the welcomes! I already feel like my one tumbler won't be sufficient from just reading about other peoples equipment uses. Oh well, I have to start small and dream big! This is also leading me to bone up on my United States geography to see where you all are from. Welcome Jolene - from over the pond.

Hi Jennifer sorry to hear things have been testing. Slabbing, tumbling and cabbing have a way of polishing away the rough and leaving you with the smooth. Hope it works well for you.

No, quartz is heat sensitive. You'll need to remove it first, or gamble with some kind of heat sink to protect the stone while soldering. ^^That! I've tried and failed - feel free to try again.. bad science is keeping on doing the same thing and expecting different results. With an efficient heat sink you *may* get away with the heating, but then will you actually get the piece hot enough to allow your solder to run?

And there was I dissing chipboard on another thread! Luckily this doesn't look anything like chipboard. Whoever named that did it a disservice. That's a lovely cab, though I think that (generally) the stones are at risk with the groove wraps. But then I know how long smithing takes so I can see it from both sides. I would have named it "toffee-ripple rhyolite"

I really like it, but I am a big fan of breccia and earth colors so this is right up my alley. I'm not a great fan of brown and the question I have for chip-board rhyolite is 'who wants to wear chip-board'. However it has truly taken a great shine. The design on the example piece is wonderful and I think that would be key to finding other cabs in your rough. Is the material saleable? Yes - absolutely! No matter what I or anyone else says about being 'ok' though, all you need is someone looking for earthy tones and I'm sure you'll find plenty and suddenly you have a market opportunity. Congrats!
