Thanks for the tutorial. The stone didn't look very secure. Then I saw it was drilled. That makes sense and looks good. I have to pick my wrapping up from the low shelf it has been on for a while. Although my near-typo 'warping' might be more appropriate!

Even silver is Moh's 2.5, but it might have a use polishing that ... once you've washed off all the grey. Think soft (art) pencil lead and you're about there.
I have an experiment to run with another soft material after making reasonable observations that it seems to polish silver very well - hair!

It will be interesting to see what these turn out like. They look promising... I like the red one, but I'm cheap.

A good jack hammer bit could be converted into a nice slide hammer and pretty good steel to boot. I see them on auction once in awhile. Similarly old stone chisel steel would be perfect for this.

Wow! Amazed to steal success from such awesome competition. It is May already. Best crack on. The colours of May are associated with lush growth, blossom & flowers: green, white, blue, pink, purple, yellow and orange: Good luck everyone! Congratulations and nice theme choice! You deserve the tie-breaker win just based on effort and presentation results alone. I posted one stone - you posted a set - both within the rules but such ambiguity in the rules makes for a bit of an awkward contest if you ask me Edit: in other words, I felt awkward all month for only posting one stone when everyone else posted a set. Not a problem! It's all for fun. And thank you.

This is my preferred formula for maximising blue flash from labradorite: It is based on the Callan-Symanzik equation if that helps. Sorry, not helpful! Please excuse my having a little fun. Of course I chose the Callan-Symanzik equation since this was described as "a vital first-principles equation from 1970, essential for describing how naive expectations will fail in a quantum world": Matt Strassler, theoretical physicist, Rutgers University Since the equation won't help you much with spectrolite, I suggest: - Wet the sample
- ID the flash
- Orient to the flash
- Cut maintaining minimum 6+ mm
- Polish; should still be >6 mm
Is this a formula? A formula for success perhaps... more a method. Hope this helps.

Hoping for a positive outcome , our thoughts and prayers go out to your cat and you . Having lost my little boy of 19 plus years just before Christmas , I know what this feels like . Similarly, my old lady of 19+ passed last summer. The vet said she could go some more yet, but we would only be postponing the inevitable. Ten years is young yet, though like anyone, who knows what tomorrow brings. Wishes for a speedy recovery so he's feline great very soon!

Hi Everyone, I just got a piece of Spectrolite from Madagascar. It weighs a little over 2.5 pounds.. Any suggestions are cutting it to get the most from the blue flash? Is there a formula? Thanks for all your help, Deb This is my preferred formula for maximising blue flash from labradorite: It is based on the Callan-Symanzik equation if that helps. Sorry, not helpful!

Even a managerial decision like this which make TOTAL logical sense to most people gets complained about and negativity ensues <shrug>. C'mon Tommy That's forums (/fora) for you. That has to be water off a duck's back.

Ok lets see if anyone here remembers this RTH member.. Well I would say that's a wonderful pair of orbiculars. However, each year I spend a few weeks at a naturist site in France so I've seen more Brazilians than an agate tumbler's rough bucket, so the novelty has worn off. A bit.

Drinking and partying belongs here in this section. Nothing wrong at all with drinking and partying, either. I'm guessing most of us are, or were, guilty of that at one time or another. Oh is that the 'adult' content? I was wondering if I'd missed something. I thought prohibition was over. Of course anyone impressionable should dirnk snesiblyly Iiliked fngdiid...
