This one might be a polishing candidate, double fist size and solid.

I'm looking for large specimens to polish whole. Otherwise they end up as backyard landscape. Check out this one, must be rare, only one i've seen like this in my area.

Did you make it in through the metal posts to area 54? Was there Sunday and found a couple poppy jaspers.

Scott: I've only ever heard the birdseye term applied to birdseye rhyolite or serpentine Never hear that varietal term applied to Morgan Hill. luvtogrow seems to know more about Morgan Hill than I so I'd follow his lead. One should also be aware that many folks misidentify materials when they post them for sale so I suppose it could be misidentified birdseye rhyolite. And, oddly enough folks seldom misidentify materials as a less expensive material but almost always say it's something "more" expensive than what they actually have *L*. That's why pics are so valuable.....Mel [img src=" i1360.photobucket.com/albums/r643/jasperhunter/octalr006_zps69dd70ef.jpg" src=" " alt="<a href="http://s1360.photobucket.com/user/jasperhunter/media/octalr006_zps69dd70ef.jpg.html" target="_blank" rel="nofollow"> </a>"] This is what "they" the unnamed oldtimers around here call birdseye. One in front appears more small flower type, kind of what I thought the boulder might look like, kind of ugly to me.

yeah, I was a little worried too. Dude seems kinda bizarre. Claimed he got it at a "yard sale" and used it as a yard rock. Now he is landscaping and wants to sell it, likely to finance the landscaping! Claims to be a mineral collector and was naming many varieties of mo-hill poppy. This is "birdseye" and it has tiny eyes. I was worried it meant ugly. Could be 300# of leaverite and that is why no pics. Dude even got his wife to take my email addy. Just checked my spam, he is not there. The "birdseye" is the most common variety that I can find here. For some reason I'm not able to post pics from photobucket, but it's got red orbs on a dark background. Most I've found are very nice, but a few, ehh. I'm minutes away from santa cruz and may just pop over and take a pic of it for you.( you'll have to view it elsewhere)- Promise, no matter how nice I won't get it. My backyard is already full of poppy boulders and 300lb would kill me to move! I'm still recovering from a huge boulder I carried months ago!

Are those rockhound trips pretty much every month? I won't be able to make the October one but might be able to sync up sometime this winter. November is Mojave Desert rockhounding, and though not scheduled yet, probably end of Dec for A54. Of course it's always open If you live in the area why not join the group? Rockhoundfieldtrips.

I would keep that site under cap. This is area 54, where Little Panoche Creek has dumped the Panoche Hills into a vast collection site. It's BLM land situated between almond orchards, easy to get to, but a map would help to see which dirt road to turn onto. Easy google search. I've seen others collect some unreal specimens from area54, many varieties of poppy jasper. Our rockhound group will be there oct 18.

Your ehhhh material beats my wow material. Nice slabs! I've got those knees too, (should have skipped football), sitting here with ice on right knee with pillow under laptop all holding ice in place.

A mineralogist just posted a blog about rockhounding Sonoma County. It's at rockhoundfieldtripfanatics.
