That glass thing sure seems to be working. Really like the colors. Russ Thanks nowyo . are you still coarse tumbling in those steel tanks ? I went from sch40 PVC to SDR 17 HDPE, a factory made end cap and a 6X4 or 8x6 reducer welded together using 2 teflon frying pans on the stove and Fernco caps. Has to be the best tumbling barrel I ever had. Fairly quiet and very wear resistant. Still have the steel tank, works great but not running it right now. Too noisy. At the place in Wyoming it wasn't an issue bu here we have closer neighbors. When I can get some stuff caught up I'll try to build an insulated box and see how that goes. I had made some barrels out of sched 40 PVC and they worked great, just need to redo my setup to work at the new place. The HDPE sounds like a great idea. Russ

Snow finally melted off, mud pretty much dried up so we got out a little yesterday. Still exploring and getting the lay of the land around here. Last year we weren't able to get out much so we're going to try and make up for it. We went in a general area where we hadn't spent much time. First stop was a roadcut through Cambrian shale/limestone. Found a few bugs. 011 by FTW2007, on Flickr 010 by FTW2007, on Flickr 008 by FTW2007, on Flickr Parts is parts 006 by FTW2007, on Flickr 007 by FTW2007, on Flickr Over shot one spot I was looking for, crossed the fault and wound up driving through Oligocene-Miocene tuff. One roadcut caught my eye so we pulled over to take a look. The roadcut itself wasn't all that much but climbing the hill we found some of this. 004 by FTW2007, on Flickr 004 by FTW2007, on Flickr 003 by FTW2007, on Flickr 002 by FTW2007, on Flickr 001 by FTW2007, on Flickr Seems to be hard enough to work with, we'll know for sure this week. If not it will look interesting in the landscaping. Only brought home a little to play with, I know where to get more if I want it. Haw Haw. This guy was hanging out wanting to be an internet celebrity. 014 by FTW2007, on Flickr This guy seems happy for the sunshine-ready for spring. 012 by FTW2007, on Flickr Traffic was horrendous. 008 by FTW2007, on Flickr Later on at another stop we found this. 005 by FTW2007, on Flickr Unuseable for anything, way porous and soft. Need some yard rocks, though. About it for that. A couple of weeks ago I walked up the wash across the road from the house. 015 by FTW2007, on Flickr Nothing real special, just a yard rock. 002 by FTW2007, on Flickr 003 by FTW2007, on Flickr 008 by FTW2007, on Flickr Mississippian colonial rugose coral, some crinoid stems and maybe an echinoderm? Anyway, it was great getting out a little. Thanks for looking and have a great day. Russ P.S. I'm sure everyone is aware but just a reminder-it's springtime and when I got back from across the road I had a tick crawling up my leg. Check for them little critters

Thanks all, finally made it back. Jugglerguy I heard you all were getting dumped on again back that way. We had a dusting a few days ago and the forecast is 50% chance of snow showers tomorrow. Isn't spring great? That little agate is from Brenda. Russ

I'll just chime in a little here. Was Production Supervisor in A pharmaceutical plant. All the tales about hiring temps and talent searches are right on. The company was bought out by a big international outfit and it all went to hell-they are all out of business now.
Back to the managing thing-I always felt that as a supervisor I should be able to step in and cover for anyone and do their job at least as good as they did-and I could. The other thing I tried to do was play to peoples strengths. If they were really good at doing A, but sucked at B and hated it, put them on A and work with them on other parts.
After the buyout and a lot of new middle and upper management people came in the whole thing became undoable and I left.
Have to laugh about @mohs tape, I always carried a 6 inch crescent wrench in my back pocket-amazing what you can jimmy with ne of those.

I don't remember the price in Quarztsite, seems it was a lot less than $65. I'm just too cheap sometimes, need to step up my game a little. still haven't tumbled any rocks I've paid money for.

I hear you about CA-brother in law retired there in December and by mid January had moved to Vegas. I reckon we'll be okay here in Nevada-be better if we could give Clark and Washoe Counties to California, though.
On North of I40, we were following directions in one of the guidebooks and you know how that goes. "Drive 1.1 miles and turn right on the good road." So we drive 1.1 miles and...there is no road. Wonder if he meant the road 1/2 mile back? Maybe we go further? Anyhow, we just wound up driving the powerline road, taking a few side roads, getting out and wandering around. Did find some decent stuff and have some of it in the tumblers now. Did see a tortoise that day, had a good time just messing around.
Now if it would just quit snowing so we can get out and do some wandering around up here. You folks take care.

Great report, Jean. Lavic is on our list of places to get to and now it's not that far. Maybe this fall. We went that way once but wound up going north of I40 instead for whatever reason. Like your description of the lava flows-over by Amboy is similar.

I don't ship much stuff, but I line the inside of the box with more cardboard and try to make sure nothing can shift inside. Wrap the whole dang thing with tape. If you saw how those packages get handled you'd be surprised that any ake it through.
