Thanks all. With any kind of luck I'll get better at it, play with some different things like patinas and whatnot. Just felt good to actually do something with rocks again.

Or whatever the proper name for it may be. Or just call it Russ being dumb again. Or still. Anyway, first saw pictures of the cowboy wrapping a few years ago. This year at Quartzsite finally caught up with Bill orrum and got a quick and entertaining lesson on how to do that stuff. Have all the necessary stuff sitting around here anyhow so I grabbed a couple of my junk cabs and wound some wire on them. Then I thought I'd torture you all with my crappy work and horrible photo skills. Just for chuckles I grabbed a rock from the basket of tumbles and tried that. Thanks for looking and have a great day Russ

I love the last one!! I don’t think every cab has to be from a none named slab. I don’t see or find much in pretty pastels. Those will make great cabs! Thanks. I mostly just mess with stuff I find. The finding is the best part. Russ

Looks like you are near some copper mines. The matrix looks like calcite and the coppers are often associated with dolomite as well. The darker material in the second photo looks like it cold possibly be cuprite. Otherwise it would be limonite (iron oxides/hydroxides). I like the copper ores, they make some really beautiful cabs. Are you in Southern Nevada? There are copper mines all throughout Nevada, but the concentration is in Southern Nevada. Thanks. Yeah, we're near a copper mine, North of you. Definitely some limonite in there and I suspect you're right about the cuprite. Ore is mainly in altered limestones above a granitic intrusion. These were just some we picked up while out and about. Once the snow melts I intend to get out and about some more. Lots of old mines in the area. I'll have some questions for you in the future, since you know a ton more about the area than I do. Russ

Nice rocks Russ. Did you see that the Spanish Point slab is a fish? A very pretty fish too. Your local green rock is a really pretty green. Any idea what it is? Are you all moved now? Should I go rock hounding in your old yard? hahaha Jim Thanks, Jim, hope you'e all well up there. Pretty much moved, have some stuff in storage up there to get still. Have some things to take care of there when the weather breaks. I'll give you a holler when I'm heading back up. Russ

It's been pretty nice here the last couple of days so this afternoon I stole a little time and cut a few rocks just to see what was in them. What with moving and whatnot there hasn't been much time for that lately. Nothing real special but some aren't too bad. Little chunk of purple from Wyoming. Found this stuff the last time I went to that site. Haven't had time to mess with it yet but I think it may be okay. Spanish Point, also from Wyoming. Now fo some Nevada rocks. Cyndi found this on the side of the road while taking a walk. A few weeks ago I walked up the wash across the road from the house. Picked this up. That's all for now. Hopefully I can get to grinding soon. Some people seem to think finishing the downstairs bathroom is more important. Thanks for looking. Russ

We've been on real limited internet for a while now but believe that's taken care of. Thanks to all of you for posting all of those pictures! I still have some Brenda stuff from 2014 (The year of the infamous drocknut gem silica) but it looks like I need to get back over there. We bought a little bit of stuff, mostly looked, visited with people and trying to learn. Cyndi got a pendant thing from orrum . Really nice. That was a good time, fun, educational, entertaining. There is also a little story that goes with this, but I'll lt Bill tell it if he chooses. Some have heard it, Bill is a much better story teller than I. Looking forward to next year-a week in Quartzsite in January is a nice break from snow. Russ

Some awesome pics on here. I didn't take any pictures-finally pulled my camera out on Sunday and the battery was dead. Duh. That table of Fordite was pretty impressive indeed, I just glanced and kept on moving like I do with all the high end stuff. It's nice to see it, but it's way beyond my lack of skill. Thanks all of you for posting.

Cool finds, Jean. Amazing what one finds around some of the old mining areas. Could the half-shoes be from oxen?

Maybe. We're planning to get there Wednesday and come back Sunday or Monday. Planning to take the car, though, instead of the pickup. Had really hoped to boondock, but we'll be staying in Blythe.

Well, since I didn't go on the McDermitt trip, I can't help you out Diane. Like most guys, he's got a pretty unremarkable butt, lol. Heeey! I resemble that remark. I actually know who's rather remarkable butt that is but I don't want to embarrass him Just found this thread, guess I need to catch up a little. I have some of those eggs in a bucket in the garage. And, I know whose butt that is-because it's mine. Unremarkable butt indeed. Russ edit to add: at least you got a picture of my best side.
