You moved to Nevada? What parts? In process now. For now on an open forum, let's say Northeast. Russ

We haven't really had any chances to get out this summer, getting moved and fixing up houses. Cyndi was cleaning up the yard in Nevada and found these lying around, took a few pics to share. The fourth picture is dry, the others were taken wet. Great report, Jean, especially with a little history thrown in. Love poking around those old mines. Have a Keene sluice that "modified" with legs, pump and spraybar so it works as a highbanker, too. Cool stuff.

Interesting stuff. We don't get to that part of the state often, but I always thought the clinker looked cool and wondered how it would turn out. Never did grab more than a few pieces. Thanks for posting those pics.

Oh hells yeah, Tommy! By then we'll be done with this moving nonsense! Definitely ready to get out and mess with rocks. We're a definite most likely if nothing else blows up in the meantime. Can't believe it's been that long since I logged on. Thanks for thinking of us. Russ

Good to post something again, Scott. Technically yeah, that's part of the Rockies. The picture of the snow on the Winds? I disremember exactly but that was taken within a few miles of the Continental Divide. The highway there pretty much parallels the Oregon and Mormon Trails there at South Pass. Well over 7000 ' where I took the photo. Russ I love that! I have intimate experience in the rockies of colorado. Very different.... Thanks Russ. See you in Q at Tony's party? Yeah, Colorado is different, but it varies so much up here it keeps things interesting. Tony"s party? That's the plan. Russ

I'll echo Diane and say good to see you back Russ! May I ask? Those rolling grasslands are "the Rockies"? Good to post something again, Scott. Technically yeah, that's part of the Rockies. Beautiful country but I sure would miss the trees . For you and Coloadocliff-there are plenty of trees, just not many right there. The other side of that mine is pretty much trees all the way to Jackson, except for the chunk that burned a few years ago. Along that line, I actually grew up in the Northeast. Now I can't stand it-trees and little hills everywhere, can't ever see more than about half a mile at a time. Gets me all claustrophobic and stuff. Russ

Beautiful pictures. Thanks for sharing! I sure do love Wyoming. I would just hate the winters. Thanks. Believe it or not, our winters here aren't that bad usually. Now last winter was about as nasty as we've had in a while, but a lot of times we'll go out after rocks all winter-as long as the wind is less than 80 mph. Just get on the lee side of the hill, it's not so bad. Russ

A little late but thought I'd post a few pics once I sort of figured out Flickr-hadn't used it in years. A few flowery shots from June 6 down at Red Canyon. Awesome Russ! What color are the plagioclase phenocrysts? I'm cutting something similar now. Don't know that it's awesome, but it is kind of cool. The plagioclase is kind of a pale green. Russ

Well, not really. About all the rock stuff I've been doing lately is sheetrock and it just isn't that much fun. Took a break from filling boxes with stuff and took a couple pictures of this hunk of rock. Leopard rock, it's a porphyritic diabase with plagioclase phenocrysts. hmm, may have accidentally spelled some of that correctly. Not rare stuff worldwide, but this is our "local" variety from the Beartooth Mountains in Wyoming. It's been sitting on the patio for several years and I thought I'd take a picture and post it just because I think it's kind of neat. Doubt it has any lapidary value. This stuff formed as mafic dikes. Must have been deep and cooled slowly for crystals to grow that large. Thanks for looking. Russ
