you got such great variety, love to see them all together. You can put those in a nice glass dish for display and have a treasure hunt whenever you want to...lots of great things to find there- pretty!

yes it has turned out to be a form of stromatolite, the locals call it cobra jasper according to the other site, here is a link to the kind of stromatolite and the age it was formed. I think it is beautiful ! www.fossilmall.com/EDCOPE_Enterprises/stromatolite/stromatolites6/stromatolites6.htmalso makes me think of some of the stuff that rockpickerforever calls fish poop... those little corpuscle looking cells.... (thinking)

the other board had a guy who knows the material and works with it. An odd/rare form of Mary Ellen Jasper only found in a small area of the Iron Range in Mn. Pretty attractive stuff!

beautiful country, scary looking area around the falls, so rough. Neat materials you brought back. Would be neat to see slabs.... (hint)

the colors and swirls make me think of moth's wings. Nature is always so much more beautiful than anything man made. Those are great slabs! Thanks for taking the time to show them to us.

the calligraphy stone seems to be a great match for your find. Different minerals in the rocks might account for variations in color. Yours is very appealing, much more colorful than some of the examples I found while searching. Will you polish it, slab it, or keep it as a pet?

thank you Jim, I am going to try to magnify that section of the rock, I thought it was quartz infilling of some sort, hadn't thought of it as fragments. Deserves a better look... maybe somebody else will chime in with thoughts and comments to confirm or deny?

vegasjames look at this second rock... makes me think.... the first resembles some of the amygdaloidal basalt I find here, as it ages it turns blue and some of the filling in the pockets fall out. It can also have vesicles and inclusions as this piece seems to have. Then again it could be something completely different (especially since it seems to have been a 'loner')
Does that second one attract a magnet? Makes me think of some meteorite photos I have seen. the outside is brittle like a crust? but inside more solid? are the patterns in the black matrix from your saw or part of the rock itself?
both very interesting.
