Problem I have with precious metals is the sellers gouge you when you buy it and when you sell it so it has to appreciate quite a lot before you even get on the positive side of the investment and it earns no interest or dividends. However, it is a hedge against serious inflation, if we ever have any. Buddy of mine had a wife from a wealthy south American family. Inflation was monstrous there so the family actually had a treasure room beneath their home full of gold and silver which they sold for American dollars to buy stuff with. Me, I invest in lead in case things go to heck. It's the all purpose kind of investment...Mel

Looks like a typical Franciscan melange type jasper. Franciscan Formation all up and down Commiefornia yields that kind of material. Poppy and brecciated types are found as well as just mixed up pieces like yours. Shows up in a few places in the Sierra foothills but mostly in the Coast Ranges from Santa Barbara County clear up into Washington state....Mel

*LOL* Buying and selling any precious metal is taxable according to the IRS. Both long tern and short term capitol gains rules apply. Of course you can sell small quantities and probably no one would ever know but if they find out by any manner and you ain't declared it, you are screwed. All that BS put out by the precious metals sellers regarding non tax-ability is just BS according to the IRS.....Mel

Man having good UPS must be nice. Both UPS and FedX round here farm out deliveries to the post office and they are totally inept. Ordered a long package the other day via UPS because I knew it would not fit the mailbox. UPS sent me tracking saying it would be delivered to my door by end of day today. Then I get an email saying it had been dropped at the post office for delivery. Well crap! I know it's three feet long and will not fit the box so the mail deliverer will just leave me a note and not deliver the parcel to my home. Then I have to wait a day and drive clear to town to pick up the box. So, I go down to the boxes and wait for the mailman. He shows up and I ask for my UPS package. He says he figured it was too long for the box so he didn't even bother to bring it to the ranch. This despite tracking saying it was out for delivery today! So, make the 45 minute drive to town cause it's supposed to rain a ton tomorrow and the creek is already deep to cross. Get to the post office and ask the clerk for my box. She says it's out for delivery. OK, now smoke is shooting out my ears!!! I tell her my mailman has just sent me to the post office to pick up the box he fuggin left there instead of delivering. So she drags her fat ass to the back and "actually" looks for the box, which of course is there. I ID myself and get my box and mention that if they are accepting responsibility for UPS deliveries, they should adhere to the tracking info. She then blames UPS for lack of communication and tells me I should go complain to them. I explain they took responsibility for the delivering the parcel to my door when they accepted it cause they are acting proxy for UPS. The blank look on her face told me I was obviously dealing with either an ex Walmart checker or a zombie so I gave up.....Mel
PS: Even UPS here sucks. My favorite delivery happened last year. They delivered two full cases of pistol ammo to my house and set the box right behind the wheels of my wife's car parked in the garage. Below her field of view so she ran over the box and squashed a bunch of the cartridges punching a lot of the bullets deep into the casings which can be dangerous with an automatic pistol. So, I got to hand sort a couple thousand cartridges and measure each and every one. Too much fun. Thanks UPS and thanks also for all the parcels you either leave by the road to be stolen or throw over my fence into the bushes, including the $150 stetson that sat in the rain for a week.

That much money would be a curse. You'd be a target for grifter criminals and ahole relatives, lawsuits, kidnappers, and every charity and church on the planet. You'd need gates and security people. You'd need a pile of lawyers and financial guys all of whom would constantly be screwing you. All your friends would desert you and you'd find plenty of new fake ones wanting a piece of you. You'd have little privacy, you'd have paparazzi trailing you around. You could trust no one and you'd never find peace. And worse of all, you'd need employees and your people, lots of them and I hate having employees or people. Generally, a pain in the ass. Constant headaches with taxes of all kinds and paperwork, stock reports, folks wanting you to invest in stuff etc. Better to have a small win and be comfortable but able to live a normal happy existence......Mel

Yeah photobucket aholes screwed me on thousands of pics all right.
Great bird pics here. I do miss my years at the Ojai Raptor Center, especially my favorite birdies Rosie the Redtail Hawk and Horus the Peregrine. Normally there are lots of photo ops with the educational birds at the open houses. Not supposed to bother the rehab birds in the big flights but they might let you see the setup at the old honor farm jail. Handlers usually have the educational birds out on their gauntlets so you can get up close and personal as long as you don't touch. Some species are more flighty than others. Some are downright hams for the camera. Very fun event to attend.....Mel

Man, that is so dangerous. Up where our ranch was in Commiefornia there were open shafts everywhere. Had a couple of close calls myself. Fortunately, BLM is starting to fill in some of the shafts now but there are thousands up in the Mother Lode country. Really have to be careful while out hounding!.....Mel

I'm with Mark on this one. Serious drug dealers, not weed, should be executed along with all serious violent criminals ie Murderers, rapists, armed robbers, armed carjackers etc etc. Permanent removal from society would clean up much of our crime problems and stop repeat offenders and save taxpayers a buttload of money that is wasted on scumbags and prisons....Mel

Oh you betcha. Mostly the original series though as I am a huge Shattner fan. Two things cheer me up any time I'm feeling down. 1. The movie Cannery Row with Nick Nolte and 2a. Any old Star Trek episode and 2b. Best of all, Shattner singing the song " Rocketman". That used to be one of my favorite party impressions. If you've never watched his singing performance, Google it. It is friggin awesome!.....Mel

I don't know this guy but my pop had a taxidermy shop right until he got real old, in his nineties. He didn't want to turn his friends away so he kept taking in critters till he was actually too old to mount them or even remember who belonged to what. When he died and the responsibility for cleaning out his shop fell to me, I found piles of stuff, a freezer full of carcasses, skins, horns etc and a log book that was unreadable gibberish. No way of contacting customers and the shop had to be cleaned up in four days because mom was selling and going into assisted living. I felt super bad that so many trophies were just to be dumped but no solution to the problem as he was a one man show. Sometimes when a seller fails to deliver, especially in this hobby that is popular with oldies, it's just that folks have died, gotten too old, forgetful, feeble or whatever. Tough, but it happens......Mel

Very nice! They find those here around the ranch and they are the holy grail for local artifact hunters. I've never even found a broken one myself but the neighboring rancher has a beauty made of local flint. Yours is much prettier though. That mahogany obsidian makes an attractive blade....Mel

Wow nice slabs. Think most of them have been nailed down and I'd agree with most the IDs.
#1 Light colored Luna, not all is deeper purple #2 Crazy Lace #3 Fossiliferous limestone but not Devil's Toenals which is a specific type of oyster. Some kin of clamshell fragments #4 Plasma #5 not a clue #6 Parrel Dendrite Agate out of Mexico #7 Pink Imperial Jasper #8+9 Prudent Man Plume #10 Brown Biggs #11 Blue Biggs #12 Ricolite if softer, if hard, could be green Imperial #13 Spiderman Jasper #14 Nipomo Marcasite in agate #15 Mexican Purple opal #16 probably Laguna because the exterior I can see does not look like Casas Grandes or Parcelas
