Thanks for all the pictures! It's nice to be able to put some faces to names and I must say ya'll are a bunch of handsome folks - especially Garage Rocker We feel bad for not making it - in hindsight maybe we tried to plan too much with cross country travel and instead should have focused on a weekend (flight) trip and at least gotten to enjoy meeting everyone and picking up some nice rocks in the process. Haha! You funny!
Wish you guys could have made it. I'll have to head that way sometime, I doubt I'll need to go back for flint for a little while.

Alright, I'm going to start with the trip photos and post some pics of the material later, after I get a chance to spend a little time on the tile saw.
I didn't get a picture of the Nethers farm house when I pulled up, I guess I was just anxious to get in there and meet everyone. This image pulled from the internet. It's definitely off the beaten path. The porch on the side is open now and there is a scale sitting out there. You just weigh your haul, divide by two (50 cents a pound) and add in the $7.50 dig fee. Put your money in a provided envelope and slide it under the door.
Across the street is the dig site. It's nice to have shade while working. The dirt road heads back a little way, with numerous pits, old and new, dotting the woods.
Mounds of dirt and flint to look through. Literally walking all over flint.
It's just a matter of picking the right colors, patterns and size. With so much to look through, there is definitely a lot of high grading to be done on the spot. For a tumbler like me, there wasn't a need to get in a pit and do heavy work. There was plenty to be picked off the surface. Just the right size.
Too big.
inbtb checking to see if the color runs through it. I think that pit was all grey, Les.
fishnpinball putting in work.
fantastic5 high grading her rocks.
Her husband Paul, providing the rocks. He's a beast in that pit, didn't want to slow him down for a pic.
fishnpinball and jeannie taking a break to talk.
NRG doing his best Tarzan pose. Actually, just watching all the work going on. He was there for the company, not so much the flint.
Been talking to this guy for a couple years now, it was good to finally meet up.
And the money shot. The whole gang.
inbtb, Anita, jeannie, NRG, Garage Rocker, fantastic5, Paul, fishnpinball, cardiobill
I couldn't catch up to cardiobill to get an action picture. Les is right, he's fast! I saw him near me at one point and then he's gone in a flash. He covered ground fast, got what he wanted and was out. Good to meet him though, and everyone else that was able to make it out. Too bad there aren't many locations here in the East to make meet-ups like this more attractive. I hope, one day, to make it out to one of the 'west side' digs.
Pics of material coming soon.
Randy

Those are beautiful. Love how the slabs turned out. Thank you! Credit to the Paul for the slabs as they were all high quality. I just cut them with the tile saw and tumbled. I really don’t know what to do with them now though lol. I might see if anyone wants to make something with them and they can keep one and give one back Those broken up slabs are perfect for an easy craft project. I let my son rough up the back with a dremel and super glue a magnet on there. Something he enjoyed helping with and another way to display tumbles. I have some on the refrigerator, on my cabinet at work and plenty have been given away.

Ha! I must have been typing while you were earlier. What timing. I like that Mary Ellen, I don't remember ever tumbling any. Good looking rock.
We've all had our issues with Moss and plume agate. Don't sweat it.

That's a super batch, Grant. That's some nice looking crazy lace. There's a lot to look at, for sure. Great shape and shine on those tumbles. And the photos too, Bravo!

Les, I wasn't far behind you. I left with 104#. Figured I had better get at least 100# if I'm driving that far. Pretty close for an on the fly estimate. The rocks are bathing and will get their glamour shots tomorrow.
It was a lot of fun meeting and chatting with everyone, a great first RTH meet and greet. I hope to make it to more. I believe everyone grabbed all the flint they could bother to pick up, the stuff is everywhere.
Finally, a well earned shower and then attempt to get some photos loaded up.

Not sure when I'll make it there. Leaving the house around 5:30. Depending on construction zone speed limitations, I should get there close to 9:00. If it were up to self regulation, I'd be there by 8:30.

Jean, I may or may not get the greatest flint, but I will get photos. Since I am a tumble guy, I will probably be content surface collecting the material discarded by the knappers and cabbers. Even with a slight reprieve from the worst of our summer heat and humidity, I don't relish the idea of getting in a pit and breaking rock. Thank you, Randy. Looking forward to any and all photos you wish to share with us. Glad your temp/humidity is giving you a slight reprieve. Nothing worse than sweating in a dusty pit breaking up rocks!
The temperature here the last few days was very nice, but will be a little warmer today, and then baking on Friday. 105 degrees! And with increasing humidity on Saturday and Sunday. No fun!
I will be with you guys in spirit. Have a great time! Jean
It's 90 today, with 60% humidity. Heat index at 98. On Saturday, they are predicting temps in the 80's and lower humidity. That little bit of difference will help.

Sorry but we won't be making the trip this year. Hope all of you have a GREAT time, find lots of A++++ material, and take lots of photos to share with the rest of us! Larry C. What Larry said - Have fun, capture and bring home loads of great material, but MOST important, take lots of photos to share with us home bodies. Randy Garage Rocker , I have faith in you to fulfill the last request. Some others of you, eh, not so much. Y'all be safe and enjoy. Dave, you've got some real beauties in this bunch. I like group 3 and 4 pics, and that Laguna turned out great. Too many to pick, but that red one with the eyes is a cool tumble too. I recognize a lot of this material, like looking at twins to some I've rolled. Pretty cool. Thanks for sharing. You obviously recognized it, as you sent it to me. It was great stuff to work with. The bulk of #3 and #4 are yours, obviously as well as your Laguna. You treated me well with what you sent me. Don't know where that red one with the eyes came from. I bought a bunch of Lake Superior agates in the past...maybe it'd part of that. You called them eyes; I could refere to them looking like something else. They're not eyes? Well then, what are they. Headlights???

All around nice material. If it's going to roll in the barrels for months at a time, it better be. Right? I wouldn't take your money, but I sense you would have lost that bet on #10. It's a Montana imposter. I'd venture a guess that it came from this Rio. I have a couple tumbles just like it. jamesp has noted the Montana resemblance in some Rios.

When you start throwing tools and cooler fodder together, it starts to feel like it's road trip time. Look forward to seeing all those that can attend.

Very nice! I love Maury Mountain. Have a couple nice chunks that I broke down to...gasp...tumble. Heathen You got that right. But it's worth it when it's done. I could be wrong, but I think this is a tumble from the last bit of MM I had.

I really dig those little agates and jaspers you find. Lots of color and variety. That group pic is awesome. Keep up these displays and you'll find a crowd out there next time you show up.
