I suspect that the mat and retainer clip was added by previous owner. For most my saws I use the blue evaporative cooler mats from HD, I usually have remnants around from the coolers. If you are ever in AZ, I would gladly sell my saw to you. AzRockGeek Well I'm crazy enough to drive down. This is a feature I have seen on every saw picture I have found. I do believe it is original equipment. Anyhow what is this blue evaporative mat? Any chance for a link. I used to work in HVAC for just a couple years but it's not ringing a bell. Here is a link to the pads, I use these in the slab catcher tray on my saws, the oil drains but retains all the rock chips. Do you have a pic of the pad you are talking about? Maybe I misunderstood what you were meaning. www.homedepot.com/p/DIAL-DuraCool-30-in-x-36-in-Evaporative-Cooler-Pad-24-3074/100346714

In all honesty I would like to buy that saw you restored. Maybe you could help me. The saw has a sort of fibermat i believe used to tame the oil and there's little copper spring retainer in the vice side of the saw. Do you know of any kind of replacement I could use? I suspect that the mat and retainer clip was added by previous owner. For most my saws I use the blue evaporative cooler mats from HD, I usually have remnants around from the coolers. If you are ever in AZ, I would gladly sell my saw to you.

I am going to go with azurite with chrysocolla. Bisbee is probably a correct location. Nice piece! Here is a similar piece, yours is nicer. www.ebay.com/itm/202571005601

The two Frantom Slab Saws I've had both had a Masonite shelf on the left side of the blade with holes drilled in it All the Frantoms I had was setup like this as well. 1/4" masonite peg board.

Not an easy photo to take. Looking top-down through the loupe I see a diamond here and there at the edge, but not many. This was the best I could do: As long as you can see the impregned diamonds on the side, you have some blade life left, you don't need a loop to see it. The blade is usually shot when there is only about 1/16" of diamond showing. Try dressing your blade a aDave mentioned. Are you using water or mineral oil? Mineral oil will make a huge difference on cut speed and blade life as well as dressing intervals. Good luck, Tim

It is hard to tell from the video, but it appears that the rock may have shifted in the vise. The bottom part does not appear to be flush with the blade like the top of the rock.

It will mist if using mineral oil, especially if you raise the lid immediately after the cut. Add some automotive no smoke to the oil, eliminates the mist with just a slight automotive odor.

AzRockGeek - I'm dying to know how the pickles turned out...they look delicious! Did you like the flavor when they were done? The pickles have been marinating in the brine for the last month, my wife made sure we are safe from vampires on this batch. Very garlicky!! Hmmmm We are going to head to the a farmers market shortly and see if they have any baby cucumbers in stock and try a jalapeno infusion for the next batch. The hatch chili's are just coming out, maybe try them as well.

Got a little cut time in, was not sure what to make of this one, kind of a botroidial like rind. After the first cut, it looks like Dino bone.
