I recently visited a small rock/gem/mineral museum at Concordia University in Seward NE and saw some amazing pieces that were mostly donated from a local, private collector. These were some of the most gorgeous Biggs jasper pieces I have ever seen, and the Ripple Jasper was amazing to look at. Has anyone ever seen the Ripple before? Anyway, I wanted to share these pictures and recommend making a trip to the basement of the library building at Concordia if you are ever traveling along I-80 in Nebraska. Well worth the trip.

I’ve cut enough small, calibrated cabs for earrings to know that it’s not a great deal of fun. All I can say is I feel your pain!

That is a beautiful set! Love everything, but I really love the ring. Marquis are hard to bezel set because of the pointy ends. You really nailed it. Thanks Robin. OMG, pointed anything is tricky to bezel set, you are so right...marquis are hard. I spent lots of time getting that silver pushed in...too much lol!

These are beautiful, especially that pendant! I really love how you make matching sets. Thanks Ali! I actually wouldn't have thought of it, my brain has some disconnects lol! But she asked me to make some matching things, so matching things she got!

Wow, I love these. Nice work. And that piece of Rocky Butte itself is very cool... Thanks Mike. The material itself is stunning. The rock she sent is so solid and free of cracks, and the slabs are amazing to look at. Really cool stuff!

It is truly a work of art. What are you going to use it for? I honestly don't know! I just wanted to make it, mission accomplished I guess! I make quite a bit of jewelry and want to have some more masculine type items if I ever do a show again, I suppose is my reasoning to myself. But I highly doubt I could part with this knife actually 😉

Looks great, awesome job! If you don't mind sharing, where did you get the blank, and is it truly Damascus (or even layered)? I bought a smaller Damascus fold out knife for this very same thing for when I'm done experimenting with some old Buck knives, but discovered the Damascus look was only etched on the surface - any grinding/sanding and it's just a single piece of steel. In the little bit of digging around on the Internet I did it seems like that is common problem, but couldn't really determine a trusted source for real layered or Damascus blanks. Thanks jasperfanatic and not a problem at all...I got the blank from Jantz. I assume it's truly Damascus. Here's a link to the blank I got from them. I'm just dipping my toe in the knives a bit, but I was pleased with what I got from them. www.knifemaking.com/product-p/jd779.htm

Excellent job. I believe this is the first knife I've seen with holes drilled in stone scales for retaining pins. It seems that everyone (including me) just attaches the scales with epoxy. Very nice, precise work! Thankks mgrets I thought I'd give this a go. I'm not sure they are doing anything really, but I like how it looks!
