Love the Picasso! The patterns are amazing and the 3-D effect is great.

I'll see what I can do! My back finally feels good enough that going into the shop doesn't sound like torture.

I agree with hummingbirdstones Try the super iron out. I've had good luck getting iron stains out with muriatic acid too, but it's pretty nasty stuff.

That's good to know, thanks! I was curious if that was unique to it specifically, or if any other rhyolite materials don't take a good polish either. It's so cool looking, but the cabs are just sort of meh... It seems like a lot of rhyolite doesn't polish spectacularly. Some do, though. If I remember right, birds eye polishes about like noreena, which is to say- not great, but ok. Thanks Tela!

Has anyone worked Birdseye rhyolite? I'm looking for any tips in getting a decent final polish on it, and maybe it's impossible. Seems like there are several hardnesses going on and it either is undercutting or some of the material just won't take a polish. I've tried Diamond and cerium oxide. I'd appreciate any advice or suggestions! I've never gotten a really great polish on it. That's good to know, thanks! Those are really great designs. Kudos on the small matched stones. I've done it but it's not one of my favorite things. ETA: I saw your Turtle on Facebook but didn't make the connection to you. I liked it a lot. You're doing some very fine work. Thanks gemfeller

I hate making earrings or anything that looks like a double. Your smithing is incredible. I think MsAli is right you should share more. I agree. It's so difficult to get the size of the stones to match, or the pattern,or whatever. Most of the slabs I get or cut are 1/4" so I can't really split them either. I just roll with it! And thank you. I had a really good teacher. I continue to learn a ton from him!

Again very nice I have yet to make a pair of earrings. But recently I ran into a friend he is an older Native American man. I showed him some of what I have been doing and he asked for a pair of earrings. So this may be my first pair. What size wire do you recommend for the ear wires? Thanks! I swore I wouldn't make earrings since it's twice the work to do, but they are really popular, so I caved and make some. I don't know if there are hard and fast rules when it comes to ear wires. I don't make mine, I get them from Rio and I get several styles, but the French wire front loop are pretty nice. I get all of them in .032" and haven't had a complaint that the wires are too thin or too thick. Hopefully others with more experience than me will offer some insights!
