Hey all, just wanted to check, I came across this tonight and looks to be a good price, $300 for the complete setup including all the pads that it originally came with. Looks to be a good deal to me but wanted to make sure. Lots of negatives on the Inland swap tops so I turned away from them. Anyway, Let me know if you think this is a good price for an 8" flat lap... new - on sale used -

I have several friends who swear by them (and none that swear at them). If the diamond discs and pads have some life left in them I think it's an OK price. Of course I would offer less to begin with, but that's just me.

These machines are an OK machine. I had a couple in the classroom where I taught and some people liked them for doing specific tasks such as flattening a piece for making doublets and triplets but generally they gravitated to the horizontal shaft cabbing machines. These are lightly built and tend to be a bit under powered. I personally had one for a while and the motor burned out. The newer Ameritool units pretty much took over in the Hitech market niche because they are more sturdy (and expensive). $300 seems a bit expensive to me. Bob

Robin, it is a little bit hi for that machine...used. In the picture it looks like it hasn't been used. They sold for $400 (approx.) $225 would be my top dollar. I have an Ameritool and love it. Of course, I have vertical machines too. You can do everything except crosses and hearts on the flat lap. Ken

If the gray things are the backing plates and sanding discs are still unused the machine was apparently only used for a flat lap and not much at that. High Tech changed owners years ago and former owner's sister opened Ameritool with her husband. I'm guessing motor and accessories ae the same as High Tech. I think Ameritool looks more sturdy and Ameritool has a better reputation for customer service. That doesn't matter much for used. I see used High Tech units for $200 and less with used laps. The 8" diamond sanding discs list for $35 ea. and backers $25 ea. Ameritools disc set with backers lists for $231.00. $300 would not be horrible with new discs included.
