Didn't know where to post these, but this seems good enough here.... Some of the fossils I display in my home....... This is a Baculite from the "bearpaw" formation in Montana. This piece is over 75,000,000 years old..... This is a scaphite from France........ A mammoth tooth from the iceage....found in Florida My pride and joys are these "ammonite" from the "bearpaw" formation in Montana.......... Part of a vertabra from a "duckbill" dinosaur Buffalo jaw with teeth, found in North Dakota, from the 1700's...... Some of my "Charcarodon" sharks teeth from the prehistoric era... Some of these teeth are over 6 inches long and 5 inches wide(also these shark grew to lengths of 65 feet!)/they are the cousin to the "Great White".... Most of these teeth were found on the Atlantic coast areas....

The scaphite and the ammonite are awsome. That is a great fossil collection. Your right there really isn't a fossil section, maybe thats something we should ask for?

Man, that is a fine collection! I really like the cephalopods too but the bison jaw is also really neat! Yeah, we do neeed a fossil section or fossils and biogenic gemstones like corals, pet wood, dino bone etc....Mel

You have some really cool fossils. I have never seen a mamoth tooth before. I also never heard of Baculite before so I just googled it to find out what it is.
Thanks for posting this great collection and increasing my knowledge.

Way cool fossil collection! I do like polished Baculites. The scaphite looks like an ammonite, what is the difference? The jawbone is awesome. There is no way a photo can do a Meg tooth justice. You have to hold it in your hand before you can imagine the enormity of these creatures. Thanks for the photos! I enjoyed them very much.

Thank you all, thats just a small sample of my collection. I have about 30 more fossils being prepared by a buddy of mine in Montana.................(He has the equipment I don't)So I hunt and find then, horse trade him a few pieces for his work, till I get set up. Scaphite and ammonites are very different and do come from different zones when hunting them.(seeing them in person makes a difference too) I have pictures of ammonites and baculites from the science world on what they figure they looked like. Ammonite from Russia, its all mineralized........

Funny thing,I collect and find old buffalo teeth in the local river here. The river had low water years, thats the best time to find them. The teeth are from the 1700's............ They are the blue-white to brown colored ones...The black ones are prehistoric horse teeth from Florida.......... This is another baculite from Montana in a different zone.(cousin to the ones I find).. Some of my "thumbnail" fossils.........amminites,baculites,fish,dinasaur bone, shark teeth, buffalo teeth and Montana black diamonds.... (I built that display case)I work with wood too..........Sorry for the glare... Prehistoric fish from the Wyoming area......

This is truly a beautiful collection! I think we do need to get a fossil section. Things like this are so special they deserve their own area! I think out of all of them, I like the last Scaphite. it is really cool looking and it is so special to you! Thanks for sharing! Fran

When I googled info on Baculite, I read that when young, the shell or body is curled or coiled and as it grows older it uncurls. It becomes completely straight when it is an adult. The many chambers are filled with gas (?) which helps to maintain bouyancy. I hope I got the info right . Thanks for posting your other fossils.

Somewhat right...........some baculites stay coiled to a curtain degree and are worth alot of money, because of it........ The family of baculites that I hunt are all the same structure, all straight, never coiled as you read.....I have baculites that are only 1/2 inch to three footers, that are all straight. On baculites its the secondary stages of the fossil that we do find and they are always straight. Thank you for the compliments of my collection...........

Very nice collection. Thanks for sharing! Too many there to like; and you found many of them yourself? Yes I find most of these fossils myself, mostly in the Montana "Bearpaw" formations.............. The hunt is the best, the prepared fossils are the gravey as I say....... ;D I use to work the oilfields in the areas where fossils were to be found. Also if you see areas with oilrigs and oil pumping units, you will possibley find fossils........They go hand in hand,in certain formations.

WOW! Where go I start other than saying what a wonderful and interesting collection you have. One of the things that I love on this board is the specialites that are so strong with some people. Some are into their opals, jades, pet woods, indeed these fossils should have their own thread for reference. So many interesting pieces I would have never known of without all these people on here. That last scaphite to me is the most beautiful, and even more so that it was the piece that inspired you to keep searching and collecting! Thank you for sharing an awesome collection! Amber
