Our dear friends from Argentina, Ricardo & Claudia Birnie (patagonianstar), were ripped-off by a man who they reached-out to help. In July of 2008, at the Weis Museum's "Wonderful World of Agates", they entrusted him with $800 in agates. He was to sell them and then pay the Birnies within 60 days. When he did not pay at that time, they gave him another 60 days to pay. After that additional 60 days, when he still did not pay, they simply asked the man to give the agates back, offering to have them picked-up by UPS, at their own expense. He refuses to comply. Given that this was a handshake deal and that the Birnies are in Argentina, they have no recourse. This "man" has commited an act which is about as disgusting as I've ever heard. They reached out to help him, and he flat-out ripped them off. I suggest that we here at RTH help the Birnies to recover the agates or money in any way legally possible. Here's the perpetrator's information: Jeff Kopsi 526 Jupiter St. Gwinn, MI 49841 Phone numbers: 906-390-0159 and/or 906-346-2130 Emails: Finn_2367@yahoo.com and/or finnsrocks@charter.net Flickr page: www.flickr.com/photos/finn-2367/Ebay page: myworld.ebay.com/finn-2367Let's discuss what can be done to recover the agates or the money which is owed.

Yes, My feeling is that great care needs to be taken here, lest there be some overzealous action occurring. I think just a simple knock on a door and a friendly conversation, nothing more. If anything at all.

Yep. A local request and nothing more would help. It may be the distance that helps him feel more secure in not paying his bill or other things are going on that are affecting him that we don't know about. Even if he has sold some of them, maybe he would give back what he has so it is not a total loss. Fran

He posted a long and rambling bunch of unrelated nonsense in rebuttal- see the Good, Bad and Ugly board. I think this character's actions are despicable and should in no way be tolerated. He has apparently sold the merchandise and not paid the benefactors. I think Jo's knock on his door should be followed by breaking his legs. If you read the thread in entirety, all reasonable alternatives are exhausted. Any legal way this guy can be put out of business is fair dealing. He is a sociopath and will never reform or regret.

There is no rebuttal. Just some stuff which was copy-and-pasted about the douchebag.
After seeing the first couple of replies to my initial post, I waited to see if anyone else would post with any other opinions or ideas. I don't agree that discussion of this matter should be behind the scenes or that purely "friendly" action should only be taken, however, breaking his legs MIGHT be a little extreme.
I put comments on his Flickr account regarding this situation, but they've been removed (he obviously saw my comeents, though). He's now closed his eBay account. His domain name expired. I assume he now has a different internet monicker, and he's probably still selling rock.
If anyone would like to take a trip to this guy's house for a "friendly visit", no harm in that. Might be a good excuse for a motorcycle ride with a couple of friends.
Anyone tried calling him?
