Here's the story. I picked up this 14" saw on ebay years ago. I used it for a year, inside my converted garage, and it saws GREAT! But the homemade wood/fiberglass box slowly leaks, and it's big and heavy and noisy. I think the leaks could easily be fixed by silicone, or washers, and a handy person. I'm not handy, and the leaking oil ruined some linoleum tiles, so out it went. And it's been outside, doing nothing, for a couple of years now. Here are a couple of pics. Pm me or post here if you're interested! I live near Sac in CA. ~Dee

maybe you should part it out, Itsandbits wants the rock and I need a 14" blade ....Lol. I am sure you would have a taker for that motor and pulley setup too. Whatever is left might get you a few bucks at a metal scrap yard.

I tend to agree with the parting it out. The 24 I just finnished doing was in similar shape and the rebuild was easy and cheep excep for thr resivoir and it cost me $255 and a lot of side sealant .

Well, I would have snatched it up, and I did, and paid for it, lol!
I wish alot of you didn't live across the country (we would have awesome rockhounding trips en mass!) but I'm just not willing to try and ship it anywhere. If no one here is able, I'll probably, eventually, start taking it apart and take the rest to the dump.

Dee , I had one similar to that and listed it on ebay a few years back --- said absolutely no shipping -- a guy in texas emailed and ask if I would take it apart and just ship the vise/rails & arbor -- he would pay $500 plus shipping !! ;D -- think I had started it at $50 ------ looks like it wouldn't be to hard to take apart --just some bolts and you might get what you paid for it or more

Dee - I'll be up in Northern California (Walnut Creek) the last week in August. If no one claims it, I'll take it off your hands. I PM'ed you my cell phone. Just let me know if someone claims it between now and then. Otherwise, I'll PM you and we can arrange a time to meet. Let me know if you want me to bring up some of that sheen obsidian along the way . Paul

Got your pm! I'll plug it in and see if the motor turns, it's YOURS! I know I could probably sell the guts, and the blades alone with a lot of life are worth $$, but I'd rather see a local rockhound/RTH family member get it. Besides, since our very own Stoner was the one that drove all the way to my place and worked to get it running, and brought some extra blades too, I feel it should be a 'pay-it-forward' since it really got me hooked on slabbing. ...although, Paul, I won't say no to sheen obsidian!

Thanks much, Dee! I really appreciate it!!! We'll PM you as we get closer and arrange a date to pick it up.
And I'll get some of the sheen obsidian cut for you!
Thanks! Paul

Paul, Put some marine varnish on the inside and let it cure for a week I bet it will be tight as a button. My 18" is in a wood cabinet and I love it....so much quieter than metal.

Good idea, Christopher. I was thinking through some ideas on how to prevent the cabinet from leaking. Hadn't considered marine varnish. Thanks! Paul

I was wondering if this is still available. I'm up in Chico, CA. My girlfriend recently got me into lapidary-I was mainly into woodworking-and a slabber to fix up and play with would be awesome! Almost all of our rock tools are things I picked up cheap because they were broken and fixed up. It's the poor people way! Heh. -Mike
