Hi Zoran:
Nice looking stuff. Did you buy the opal rough on Ebay or from a dealer? Good job cutting the cabs.

Hi Zoran:
I've been to that website many times before but never ordered anything from it. Lots of good looking material on it for a very reasonable price. (some is VERY expensive) Koroit is one of my favorite gemstones so I browse through it periodically just to see what they have.

Steve, I bought my opals from these sellers: Peters Opals and Sedaopals. I am very satisfied and will buy from them again. If I get some money ;D.

Wow - the blue of that first one is amazing. I also really love the solid one. Great job!
My mother keeps reminding me that her birthstone is opal. I keep telling her that I'm not going to be making her any opal cabs any time soon. That'd just be a waste of opal!

Excellent job Zotika. The black really brings out the color in those doublets.

Hey Cher,
I hope you don't mind my responding in a different thread. I posted larger pictures of the rocks I collected. So far you are the only person to respond, thanks!! It's in the "Rock Quest 07" thread...
Thanks!!! Moss

Thank you all. It seams that I am hooked on this stuff. Even I am without money right now I am keep looking at those opal auctions all the time. They have wonderful stuff. I bought that small parcel for 35$ + shipping. But they do have expensive stuff. My wife showed interest and tried to bid on some of those. She said: "look this one is very nice, lets bid". She never look at the price - the nice one was 21000$ - very nice indeed.
Cher, doublets are made when you have too thin opal piece to make a cab of regular thicknes and, especially, to bring out its colour. For example at the first picture with rough opals look at the first one from the left in the bottom row. It is the one that I made that first doublet from. See the difference, and keep in mind that I took the picture on black pad. If it was on white backing or without any you just couldn't see that blue colour. You now there are triplets, also. Basically that is black backing, thin opal and rock crystal on top. That way you also keep your opal from scratching. Of course solid ones are more valuable.
