Sunday night / Monday morning will be the best time to view the Perseids meteor showers. A few years ago I saw the Leonids and they were awe-inspiring to say the least. I'll go away from the city and be watching them weather permitting. If you all get a chance, check them out.

Thanks for the reminder. I love star-gazing and when the meteors put on one of their shows it is simply magnificent!!!

Well done Condor - always good to know in advance! I'm always a fan of meteor showers, I like the slow colourful Geminids, but it's seriously cold watching that one at this end! Get out an see some - the moons new tis year - so it should be a great show!

I went out last night just to see if there were any early ones --- saw a couple that really streaked across the sky -- were to the east of me and went from north to south --- plan on going outside again tonight !! -------- couple years ago I watched as several hundred went across in the matter of a few hours , sometimes 15-25 were visible at the same time ! --- almost made me wonder if something more was happening -- but we're still here !

As always, whenever something of astronomical interest happens, it is cloudy here.

I was just outside, 11:40 p.m. CDT, It's hazy, I can only see about 3 or 4 stars, not good for meteor viewing.

Its 2:30am Texas time! I drove out of town but didn't see anything but gigantic mosquitos so I drove back home. Laid in the driveway for over an hour. I saw one at least every 10 minutes. Pretty cool. One of them made a kind of hopping movement. Kind of a side to side hop. It had a long tail. Anyway, I am off to bed. I had a pretty good show for being in the city!

Hi all,
Got to see a couple last night from the UK, before the coluds closed in again! Typical - but as an astronomer I'm used to it! Typical persieds - very fast moving .25 second each - blue / white in colour with the occasional really bright one, saw some flashes above the clouds as the weather was turning.
Cheers,
Harry.

I only managed to see two but they were beautiful. Considering there was still lightning flashing off to the west and the mosquitoes were on a feeding frenzy, I figure I did quite well sighting two!

They were very good. My family and I drove out to a state park to view them. Like Harry said, they were extremely fast. We did see some that took their time and left trails. One in particular was spectacular. It had an orange/yellowish color and looked like it was going strait up, then looked like it was coming from southwest to northeast. It got bigger and brighter, then just seemed to have exploded. It was incredible. Lasted about four or five seconds. It was somewhere's about 1:00 in the morning. I took two digital cameras with me, had them both on extended exposures, but not one meteor came into view of the lens. The drive back from where we went was tiring eventhough it was only a little over an hours drive away.

I saw two again last night while waiting for the ISS to come over but was too tired to wait for the peak.

Cher, we saw a really bright satellite last night but it was moving from the south to the north. Doesn't the ISS move from west to east?
I've seen the ISS with the space shuttle docked to it, that was really bright!
