Hi Folks, It’s always such a pleasure to see the variety of styles we all find with our cabochon cutting, so I’ve been having a play with a few different types of Agate this week. I haven’t cut that many stones yet, and thought I should try to focus on working with uniformity, and practice for a little while. After cutting my first few stones, I was struck by a particular example that I cut from an over-thick slice in a 16mm circle, so I decided to follow that route of interest a little further with this exercise. I loved the circular shape and the high dome design seemed very attractive to me, so this sequence have all been cut in 18mm circles (dime size), with a high dome 8-9mm deep. In no particular order... Oregon - Graveyard Point Plume Agate Mexico - Red Plume Agate Brazil - Brazilian Brown Agate Wyoming - Turritella Agate Mexico - Red and Green Moss Agate I had a lot of fun cutting these stones, and have learnt a bit more about controlling the dop, and my sanding technique, both of which I need to develop further. I shall be using this design again soon, but in a more applicable way. This was fun, but I feel the need to make a finished pendant or two! ;D I love the overall appearance of these little gems, although having cut several high domed stones now, I’m sure it works better with some varieties of stone, more than others, I guess it’s all a matter of taste. Thanks for taking the time to look, ;D Cheers, Sparkles.

Harry, you seem to have a robot-like hand and eye! All those cabs are just perfect! They look so good and cute, with those high domes! And the shine is just as perfect as the shapes. All of them are beautiful but my favorites are the Turritella and the Graveyard plume.

Beautiful work. Perfect shine and perfect symmetry. Perfect circles are one of the hardest shapes to do. Bob

Hey folks, your makin' me blush! - "It were only a bit of fun!" ;D ;D I have been having a LOT of fun, and I'm so surprised and flattered at your kind comments. I'm learning fast at the moment, and I've got a lot of new stuff to try, I'm feeling like a kid in a sweet shop. The shape and form of these stones really appealed to me and I'm glad you enjoyed seeing my follies, there will be plenty more to come thanks to the inspiration you folks have given me. Thanks again all, the pleasures all mine. Cheers, Sparkles.

Sparkles: Wow:) What beautiful work, how on earth can you make those perfectly round circles? ?, and what great shine!!!! My eyes are popping, they look like fancy bon bons from the fancy chocolate shops. You did some very nice work there, keep it up, show us more. Amber

I can see why that shape appeals to you. With the high dome, it seems like it either accentuates the features or patterns or kind of like a distortions like the carnivale mirrors but in an appealing way.
That Turritella is awesome. Almost like the little critter is borrowing in the stone.
Your work is just beautiful.
