The local rock club I belong to has a letter themed display/show and tell session at our bi-monthly meetings. This month is I and J. The two materials I thought of were Indian Paint Stone/Picture Rock and Jumpin' Jeep Jasp-agate. Here are the pieces I cut this week to take. Indian Paint Stone - These were all cut from the pieces I was trying to trade a couple weeks ago. My favorite: This one is 2.5" long This one reminded me of the Goodbye Blue Sky scene from the Wall, so I had to put the DVD on the Surround sound and shake the house. Jumpin' Jeep - The first one had some fractures and crumbly that I sealed the best I could This one was a big end chunk that I started end polishing. I kept going and ended up turning it into a really thick cab. Next up is K and L. So far, I have: Keegan Ranch Tube agate Lake Superior Agate Laguna Agate Lucky Strike thundereggs Lyle Agate (WA) Limb Casts

HPD: I love the theme that your club has, very interesting I bet to see what everyone comes up with for show and tell. The Indian paint stones are cool, I know they are messy, and I don't know what to use to shine them up, but they have cool scenes. Good thing you didn't trade them!
The Jumpin Jeep is really awesome though, where is that material from? The first and last one of those are really striking. Amber

Look Mommy, an airplane! I can see the airplanes in your Indian Paint Rock also reminding me of Good Bye Blue Skies from The Wall.
The psychedelic color and patterns of the Jumping Jeep reminds me a little more of Pink Floyd's earlier work. Good cabs, good tunes.
Keep on rockin' in a free world!

The Jumpin Jeep is really awesome though, where is that material from? Amber The Jumpin' Jeep is from a private claim up in Mitchell Oregon. It is on the north-east side of the Ochoco's. It is still an active claim and I was able to buy 20 pounds of rough that I still need to get cut. There is another claim close to that one called Storm Cell plume that produces some great white plume. I'm going to try and get permission to collect there this summer.

What a gorgeous selection, HPD! You've got a superb shine on some difficult materials.
That's really a fun idea for a club display, too.

Great theme idea and boy do I love your cabbing work and photography! Amazing job on the Indian Paint which I've oftentimes found is no picnic to work. BOy does that jumping jeep look like a lot of the Lavic jasper/agate types. The first one of those in your post is my absolute favorite from the lot.. Now you've got me Jonesing for the rest of the alphabet!......Mel

I really like the club idea of themed months. I might have to make a suggestion in our club....get the oldie moldies to be more lively or something! It's quite an older group...and we need to start sharing more of everyones talents instead of sitting around and not visiting. Now; about the cabs....that is some of the sweetest Indian Paint I've seen. I never realized that sooo many scenes could be found in that stuff. 1, 2 and 6 are my favs. I have to say that JJ Agate is crazy cool too! I've been tempted so much by Dale Rhoades e-bay stuff...but haven't won yet. Still working to get a piece or two. Love that last Oval bestest! Can't wait until next month!!! Steve

Can't wait until next month!!! Steve If you want to get some Jumping Jeep, I can get it. I have a bunch in the shop. Also, once the weather thaws, I should be able to get a good supply. I'll send out an email this month and see what's available from last years haul. I'll take my rough to the club meeting next week and get someone to slab it. The pieces are too large for my saws. Dan
