Toad: Bone doesn't work up too well in the tumbler so this one I did on the wheels. Curt: Thanks for the input. That's one of the problems of buying material at shows where the folks are not always too forthcoming regarding origins etc. It's definitely well agatized bone but does not resemble any of the other bone I have, including Canadian dino and whalebone. I really have no clue about if there is silicified dino bone in Texas or not. Have you even seen any? Guess this stuff will remain a mystery....Mel Mel, yup we have lots of silicified bone. And I certainly don't have a lot of knowledge on the subject. I can only relate my experience. All of the ones I've found have the nice cell structure on the outside, but when you cut into it, the cells are very small and not nice and pretty ones like you have there. I'll try to get a few pics up of the ones I've cut. Another thing is, I haven't cut a whole lot of it. When I know what animal it is and which part of the body it came from, I don't cut it. I'd much rather keep bones like that as specimens. Curt

Hey Beef- I think Mel has made a point about your slab making him think of wood- there is a linear pattern there that you probably wouldn't see in bone. In bone the cells are pretty randomly oriented and spindle shaped. Cool materal, in any case.
