All I wanted to do was review the new recipe for reducing the water and grit amounts in a rotary tumbler. I know I saw it several times and I even thought that I copied it, but I have no idea where I put it, and I CAN NOT find it with a search. This link is no loner of any value either.

There's another thread that talks about this. It's one on the first page in here. 3Tbsp grit and about 1/2c water (4oz) per 3lb barrel. That's what I'm trying from reading everything people here are saying.

Here is a link to the PDF: Shelby Raymond Rock tumbling tutorialedit: Is Shelby still around? This thread makes me think they aren't ... but I noticed Scribd has a copy of this pdf behind their pay wall. If anyone knows Shelby I would tell them so they can contact Scribd and have it removed. I highly doubt they have permission to distribute it for money.

Sorry, I have been gone for quite some time. The tutorial is back up. I haven't been to this site for quite some time and don't have any messages. I thought I had updated all of the sites where I had posted the links, but obviously, missed this one.
No, SCRIBD didn't have my consent.
The attachment link within the original post has always worked, even though the link to my website didn't. Thanks to whoever has been sharing the files through this forum though. :-)
I apologize for any frustration you may have experienced.

Clarification on the number of barrels needed - I have a two barrel tumbler. Therefore, with a different barrel for each stage, I need two of each. If you are running a single barrel tumbler, you may only want one barrel for each stage. Some folks don't use separate barrels for each stage, I do. I find the rubber barrels occasionally manage to get a piece of grit embedded and the next stage can get wrecked. Since each stage takes so long, I prefer to reduce the risk.

You are very welcome Bill. Cheap is a good way to start - that way, if you decide you don't enjoy it, you haven't lost a ton of money. It is super tempting to go out and buy everything and buy the best you can afford, but quite frequently folks end up spending more than they needed to or discover they really don't like tumbling. It takes a lot of patience because the rocks can take a long time to look good. No immediate gratification in this hobby!

I have removed the tutorials. While the information had been updated and links worked, I’ve received some nasty emails and that is unfortunate. I made the tutorials and provided them for free. I do not want anyone sharing the tutorials anymore, so please don’t add links to versions you may have saved.
I believe there is enough info here now to fill in the gap as the group and forums have grown a lot over the past 8 years.
Happy Tumbling

Your information will live on in the knowledge we share with everyone! Sorry some people can be assholes!
